There is a high probability of development (70%) that a tropical storm or hurricane will develop. It is too early to tell if Hawaii will be impacted again but NOAA is deploying the Hurricane Hunter WP-3D today. Video update will be issued later. 🧪

Wow! GeoCollaborate showing the latest observations from ocean Gliders. South of Jamaica the depth of the 26°C isotherm is 173 meters! That’s deep!! For context Winter–early spring: roughly 40–70m July: commonly 70–100m Late summer–early fall: often 80–110m Warm eddies: locally deeper than 120m 🧪

The heat is on in subsurface equatorial waters, suggesting a strong El Nino on the way. Could devastate Galapagos wildlife (land and ocean). El Nino's shut down upwelling, reduce food availability for marine iguanas, sea lion pups, birds, penguins and more. Corals may also take a hit. 🧪

This is going to be an impactful storm for Hawaii. If you live there know what you will do in case of a flood, large battering waves and even a severe thunderstorm or tornado. Even winter storm watches and warnings are likely in the high elevations through the weekend.🧪
