In lighter news: on top of the youngest jay returning when we put his favorite snack back out, his starling best friend has come back too despite the rest of her flock having left weeks ago. Her leg is unfortunately no longer attached but she's made it to adulthood at least! I'm rooting for her.

i've long dreamt of similar approaches to long range cross-country rally racing like Yoshio Fujimoto did in the early 90s with his Celica across East Africa, or a mission-based multiplayer game about crewing a B-17 that's really brutal and sim-heavy like this.

Not a great pictographic example maybe, but this is one I can still discern as Juniper, mostly because her feathers in front still curl inward in the same unique grain, it's just far less exaggerated now.

Little fluffball baby jay almost literally does not leave our porch *at all* during daylight hours at this point. Dude just sits here and hangs out all day long. I appreciate it because all our other jays have largely finished molting into adulthood and I can't tell them apart anymore 😭
