@footballcliches.bsky.social I’m married to an anaesthetist. In “top operating” surgeons are the striker or 10 who deliver results. Anaesthetists keep the patient alive - the central defender or keeper. Junior docs helping the surgeon, are the wingers. Specialist nurses are 6s, 8s and full backs.

@andrewhickey.500songs.com Have you listened to The Guitar Story on BBC Sounds? An interesting account of the role and use of guitars across musical genres.

@andrewhickey.500songs.com Bridgewater Hall tomorrow: Classic Albums Live play Led Zep II. Went to see their Beatles White Album, faithful to original, no silliness. Vg encores: Twist n Shout, Hey Jude & Get Back. Interested in choices tomorrow. Maybe Rock n Roll, Dazed & Confused and Kashmir.

@footballcliches.bsky.social The attached says “Benfica are poised to lose Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid.” One can be “poised” to win but not to lose. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

@andrewhickey.500songs.com Not sure whether you are a fan of the Cowboy Junkies - my favourite Canadian band. I saw them at the Coro in Ulverston last night. Terrific gig. Their version of Sweet Jane is fabulous.

@footballcliches.bsky.social “Goalifications.” Players with lots of goals + assists are “goalifiers.”

@footballcliches.bsky.social Sky pundit yesterday lunchtime said, of Coventry’s Matt Grimes: “he’s the midfield glue that keeps them ticking over.” No! Glue is the last thing you’d want in a timepiece. it would have the opposite effect to “ticking-over.”

@footballcliches.bsky.social An article on football podcasts in today’s Observer says “Football Cliches is for the discerning obsessive.” Can a real obsessive be “discerning?” I reckon a feature of true obsession is a lack of self-awareness of that condition.

The best Marriage of Figaro production I’ve seen, last night @operanorth.co.uk at the Leeds Grand Theatre. Exuberant performances and a terrific orchestra.

@footballcliches.bsky.social When did managers start to lead their team up to receive the FA Cup and winners’/losers’ medals. My memory might be wrong but surely that hasn’t always happened. I thought they followed their teams up the Wembley steps.

@ianleslie.bsky.social I loved the audio version of John and Paul. I paused listening, to play each song. The book confirmed my belief that they were equal music geniuses. And that Paul’s “it’s a drag” comment after John’s death was the self-defence of a traumatised friend. Terrific work Ian.
