If that color has access to it in 60 cards, then it has access to it in EDH. If you feel like the effect is not consistent enough in 100 card formats, then frankly i feel like you need to accept that as a limitation of the color. EDH is a format literally defined by its arbitrary restrictions.

That's the tradeoff of playing different colors. It is good that colors don't have access to specific forms of interaction. There should be actual pros and cons when you select how you want to construct your deck.

One thing I'll sometimes do is get other people's input, or even just use random chance to make a decision for me. You don't even have to follow the outcome. often I find having the decision made will help solidify your own feelings; do you like that outcome or does it not sit right with you?

Actually, with those kinds of purchases it's harder to resist if I already own a bunch of cards. Probably because an entire deck list is just a bigger expense than the last dozen or so cards needed to round a deck out.

I've definitely put together deck lists or added individual cards to my cart on Card kingdom, and then waited a few weeks before buying several hundred dollars worth of cards. Sometimes I'm just excited about a deck idea, and then after sitting on it for a bit the novelty wears off.

#askbox It depends on how big the purchase, and the type of purchase. If it's not time sensitive, one option is to just put it off. See if you're still as excited about it in two weeks, or a month, then make the decision.

#askbox Yeah, and while I like them conceptually one reason I don't draw them is that it's hard to convey in a single image. I'm not a fan of doing comics or other multi-panel works, but establishing that the panties have a portal in them and showing them in use is easiest to do into parts.

Seluma would be an atrocious five color deck, but that's why you just don't play her five colors. You play her as a white deck with a slight splash, which makes it effectively pure upside over any of the regular white angel decks.

In that instance the mana base actually *isnt* that hard to manage, and while you don't have Gaida's ramp there is plenty of other ways to ramp in white and you now have an easily repeated reanimation effect in the command zone.

You don't have to go five color with it, or even more than two. The rulebreaker gives you the flexibility to play a mono-white angels deck just like any other, but then splash for a handful of specific angels you want that these other mono white decks don't have access to.

You can literally just swap Gaida for Seluma if you wanted and have identical decks, but now you can splash red for just a couple of the Boros angels like Aurelia and the Boros Gisela, or you can splash just black for some of the orzhov angels.

The extent to which creatures and mana is different is entirely up to the deck builder. If you look on EDHrec there's a lot of different colored angels listed fir Seluma, but you don't have to play all (or even most) of them, and that's my point.

They aren't the best commanders in their colors or generically all that strong,they are the best version of their archetype. The same way you have to have a good reason to make a vampire other than Edgar your vampire commander, you now have to have a good reason to make any other white angel deck.

I always point out that more than half of all the legendary creatures ever printed were printed *after* Golos got banned. Part of the problem with Golos was that he was the default commander for any archetype that didn't have a commander in that archetype.

My initial point is that I think it's actually incorrect to be thinking about or comparing most of these rulebreaker commanders to multicolored commanders. I don't think of them that way. In my mind, they are mono colored commanders with a strict upside from breaking a rule.

You can swap out any white angel commander for the new one if you wanted without losing anything, but now also you get an added bonus of running other angels if you wanted to. You can swap out any blue spell slinger deck for the otter and be fine, but now also can add in cards of other colors.

Right, my point though is that the rulebreaker mechanic effectively just makes them strictly better versions of their archetype counterparts, the same way that [The Ur Dragon] is just generically the best dragon commander.

I've talked about things I dislike on the customer magic subreddit, and I think an underrated annoying thing is people perpetually trying to make balanced zero cost spells. Magic is, at its core, about resource management. Any time you get anything without spending resources, it's very good.
