you actually have it exactly backwards. wotc is the only thing keeping hasbro afloat. there's a big big reason that they don't separate magic's earnings from their own (non-wotc) gaming earnings, and its not that it's tidier in the paperwork that way

i was a member of the judge program until 2019. the pivot to commander began in 2015 (before i started playing) and ramped up significantly post-Ixalan. i would personally put the moment of full-tilt at Dominaria with the "legend in every pack" thing
