He can’t stop touching her.

His breathing regulates, cools, and then he realizes her chest is rising and falling in tune with his own. Like even in rest, in stasis, they match each other. A mathematical truth rooted in something that feels so natural it doesn’t need to be understood: the fibonacci sequence; radial symmetry; the pull this woman has on whatever it means for him to be human.

“Do you believe in soul mates?” he asks her.

She sighs, like he’s broken some unspoken agreement, and begins to pull away.

He tugs her back. “I can be quiet,” he says. “I’m sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for,” she whispers, but that can’t possibly be true. Not when she’s stiff in his arms where before she’d been pliant. Not when there’s panic in his veins where before there’d been bliss.

I do a monthly letterloop with my college group of friends (yes we are millennials ty) and this is the vibe every goddamn time the question was "is there an experience you think everyone should have at least once in their lifetime" why am I like this frfr

me: this is the most cop out answer but...no??? I feel like one of the most beautiful parts of the human experience is that every person is so deeply singular that individual experiences can't ever resonate universally. Unless we count like, intangible experiences. In which case I wish every person an opportunity to feel deeply connected to a community of people or something, whatever that looks like for them.
