The outsourcing of reading to automation derails learning in all disciplines. Reading isn't just cute & fun, it is foundational to all other literacies. We continue to test this unethical tech on children at our peril. #EduSky #AIrefusal #Humancreativity #NoAI www.edweek.org/leadership/3...

As a professor, I embrace the idea that many students have been affected by COVID & long COVID. They don't want to think that they are. I don't believe it's (solely) cell phones. Also, they lost key social skills that develop vocabulary & focus. (As did many adults..)

Federal agencies are buying Americans' phone location data from brokers instead of getting warrants. ICE acquired a tool built to watch a neighborhood and follow phones from work to home over time. No judge signed anything. Somebody signed a purchase order. #Surveillance www.npr.org/2026/03/25/n...

Your data is everywhere. The government is buying it without a warrant
Data brokers buy up huge amounts of information from cell phones and browsers to sell for targeted advertising. But the government, including ICE, also buys the data.

Your sex is none of the state's business. They don't get to tell you what it is, and there is literally no reason for sex markers to appear on driver's licenses or any other form of government ID.

When the AI bubble pops, every AI company will beg for a bailout and say AI is “too big to fail.” These companies tried to replace the artists, writers, workers, teachers, and journalists whose work they stole. They will demand you save them so they can take your job, too. Can God get a hell no?

The dismissal of the vindictive charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia was an unqualified win for justice, the best thing to happen in a federal court since last January. Even better: the decision itself is a remarkably vindicating summary of everything that we thought we knew about the situation

n the 1830s everyone in the USA knew that canal waterways were the future of commerce. Every state started building a canal network with the vision of hooking them all into a national network. In 1837 there was a Great Recession, and the tax base for the canal work collapsed. When the economy recovered 5 years later, the railroad boom was happening and everyone knew that canals were over.
That's why every city in the Midwest has a half-finished canal in it. This is a post about data centers

NEW: The government tells Americans to use VPNs to protect their privacy. The government also automatically presumes communications of unknown origin are foreign. Foreign communications don't require a warrant to wiretap. Lawmakers who've done the math want answers. My latest @wired.com:

Using a VPN May Subject You to NSA Spying
US lawmakers are pressing Tulsi Gabbard to reveal whether using a VPN that connects to overseas servers can strip Americans of their constitutional protections against warrantless surveillance.

You can’t really learn much if you’re having AI generate your homework, your papers, and everything else you need to complete a class, but for some reason universities keep shoving AI into the learning environment on the assumption that it’s an improvement.

If we want to actually do something about the cartels, we can start by ending the War on Drugs. We already ran this experiment with the mob during Prohibition. Turns out banning things just made organized crime richer. A regulated drug market is safer for everyone.

The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.
