I was 8, living on the other side of the country. My mom didn't wake me up to take me to school that morning. I woke up way later than usual and wandered into the living room to see her watching the news. She pulled me into a hug. I had no idea what any of it meant, only that she was scared.

I feel that with Webtoon. Took me so so long to make it to 2000 followers, and that's barely enough to even qualify for ad revenue. I learned the hard way that "real" webtoon artists hire teams and still have to meet ridiculous publishing standards, and even then it's not a guarantee you'll be seen.

This is actually a big part of my research: how we've turned art into "content" and artists into "content creators." It dehumanizes art, which makes it much easier to exploit artists. Big companies and even governments invest in this concept for a reason.
