The librarian, not the feminist philosopher. Though that would be cool. I’m a strong supporter of books as empathy builders for all ages, libraries as community spaces, and access to information.

To be an artist. Make some art > does it look terrible? > yes / no > you are an artist > make more art

All I want is for one of them to say something like “Look, I know this is a narrative that Republicans are trying to push but there is absolutely no current issue with ‘men trying to take over women’s sports.’ It’s not happening, no one’s in danger, it’s all made up.”

I don’t know how the teenager keeps running out of clean pants. The light at the end of my tunnel is that they do know how to do laundry. The trick is remembering to do it the day you wear your last pair of pants, not waiting till you need them and there aren’t any in your drawer.

You know, I work for a public library and we’re not allowed to accept gifts from local businesses or library users because of the potential for perceived favoritism.

I’m in the states and I heard a lot of “breast is best” language when I had my babies 13 and 8 years ago. I did fine with nursing, but a friend really struggled. I realized just how guilt inducing that message could be. I like “fed is best” as an alternative.

I work at a public library, and we have a scan-to-fax service for patrons. Seems like a lot of medical and government agencies require a fax instead of an email. I knew one person who filed for unemployment via fax.

My kids all saw LOTR probably way too young, but all loved it. My littlest never stood a chance because dad and the big kids were watching it. I was worried, but he thought Shelob was hilarious.

My brother named our cat Rasputin (because he was that kind of teenager) and then went away to college. Rasputin became Pudy, or Puddy Tat, and eventually Puddin.

there’s a difference between celebrating someone’s death and celebrating that they are no longer in a position to do great and immeasurable harm to people around the world because they are dead you can do both tho I ain’t gonna judge

At the eve of the summer solstice, I pick seven different flowers, in seven different fields, all in complete silence. I tie them into a bouquet and put it under my pillow. Doing so means that tonight, I will dream of my true love. I already live with her, but I like dreaming of her too.

That sounds like a lot of fun. What I usually do is pester the public library where I work into buying everything Ursula writes and then get first in line in the holds list.

I just discovered that @tkingfisher.com has written a middle-grade retelling of Tatterhood! Due out in February! If anyone was born to adapt a fairy tale about an unprincessy princess who rides a goat and fights with a wooden spoon, it is Ursula Vernon.

We had a nest on the roof of the library where I work. Last Friday, when the babies hatched, was the happiest/least productive workday in a long time. This was the view out my office window.

Something I've been toying with for a while is trying to reframe the nature of the Hellenistic gods to make their portfolios make a bit more sense. For example, Dionysius is not just the God of Wine, but the god of Altered States: alcohol, yes, but also drugs, wild revels, acting, madness

My eight year old really likes that there is a nice troll named Frogsnoggler, but I guess we’ll wait a few years before we hand the book over to him. We did read him Castle Hangnail, and it was a hit. Especially the moles.

There used to be an Indian place in Half Moon Bay, CA, called ARK. The name was made from the first initials of the owners’ children. They were the nicest people and their food was my primary craving with my first pregnancy. Baby wanted Spinach Saag, samosas, and a mango lassi.

Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time. Time to claim your true history.
