Livetweeting the court hearing on ABC v FCC. ABC wants the court to stop the FCC's hearing on early renewal of ABC's licenses plus all other retaliation against ABC's speech in violation of the First Amendment. Threshold question is the court's jurisdiction: Must ABC wait for a final order to sue?

This is a huge issue in Ohio too. If I click on a link from say tumblr to bsky it would be blocked, but if the tumblr poster has a Xitter, I can view it if I'm logged in. Feels like a forced use of Xitter half the time besides being an inconvenience.

Because Musk doesn’t worry that a Texas AG would ever prosecute his (right-leaning) platform. Bluesky, which skews left, doesn’t have that luxury. It’s Wilhoit’s Law in sharp relief.

The religious right is steadily expanding its definition of what is sexual — and restricting what it deems acceptable in public spaces. Tech companies, in want of less oversight, are taking the hint. The deplatforming that started with sex workers / kink / trans has come for gay bars.

Banks, the biggest arbiter of what can be distributed online, are steadily restricting the types of speech — art, entertainment, resources — permitted. A payment provider dropped FlowFo for allowing sex-related content, pushing them out of business. Financial discrimination is censorship.

Utah wanted websites to verify the actual, physical location of visitors and force them to identify VPN users. The controversial addition to the state's age-verification law was suppose to go into effect next week, but a District Court judge struck it down at least temporarily.

Tech is entering its prohibition era. We've been here before.
Governments are seeking to set restrictions on popular tech. Though well-intentioned, the bans are easier said than done.

So, what will YouTube, snap, and others do knowing that the AG will put them through the same thing that meta just went through? They'll probably just pre-comply. Meta basically said "if I'm going down, then everyone else has to go down too."

I know there are too many suits to keep up with but this is actually insane. Meta agreed to shell out the rest of the settlement money ($$$$$$$) to the AG only if the AG pressures Meta's competitors to comply too. That's batshit.

I'm done with the sugar coating. You want to actually improve youth mental health outcomes? Give kids better access to meals, education, community, third spaces, mental healthcare, and THEN maybe they won't have to turn to social media as a last resort.
