Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

I know I’m blessed. I have Type 1 Diabetes, but my husband has a job and insurance that pays for it so I don’t have to worry. I have three babies, but I can stay at home and plan birthday parties for them. Not everyone lead that kind of life.

My mom shielded me from the news that day. I was only 3 or 4. She says she watched the live news from the other room. I had no concept of it all until I was older. How horrific it all was. Traumatizing. The US has never experienced anything like that before or since. I pray we never do.
