This did not have to happen. This man was allowed to do this. Not plausible that there were no warning signs leading up to this. That this person was allowed to legally own a firearm is the sign of a broken system. Had his legally registered weapon been taken away, lives would have been saved.

"Why is America not like Japan?? Dems have failed us, clearly. If Dems were good, we would basically be Japan." Reality:

This photo of the crime scene is so f**king disturbing. No, there's no dead people in it. No trigger warning needed imo. But the context makes it haunting.

When you read this kind of thing you can't help but think that this nightmare was preventable.

Amazing to think that King threw the beginning of “Carrie” (his first novel) in the trash in 1972. His wife rescued the pages and convinced him to finish the book. And now over half a century later people are making the 4th or 5th adaptation of it. Brilliant idea for a story.

The things these people do to their faces....is there some medical crisis going on here? If not a physical ailment, surely a mental one.

It's just....uncanny. it's not like being 60 years old is some horrifying fate. But these maga people just can't seem to deal with it. They want to look like even more disconcerting versions of the woman disguise from "Mars Attacks" or something.

Plastic surgery is not as advanced as I thought, clearly. Keep in mind, this is the top of the top of the line. 100s of billions of dollars in this family so they can afford the best doctors on earth. But sometimes the best isn't good enough. Millions spent to look like a clown.

I don't really require Glen Powell to discuss politics. (I also had to double check who he was)

+ should add that DC made a joke that his relationship w his Tesla is independent of Musk. I in no way think that DC has an affinity for Musk in his current "mask off" far right political incarnation. The opposite. (Still an interest in the figure of the alienated oligarch in "cosmopolis")

David Cronenberg summed this entire problem up in one simple slogan:

Ok, this book is freaking me out. One minute you are laughing at all the nonsense about mars and transhumanism….but Vance is completely tied in with these people. It’s not just a fringe freak show.

Did you get "California"? Amazing album imo. The chaos and noise of Disco Volante and metal of the self titled evolved into a very interesting place. Very nicely produced tunes there, including some lush ballad vibes.

Barry Lyndon is generally regarded by film geeks as one of the most beautiful films of all time. Not exactly "exciting" per se. And probably not that appealing if his other work is not to your taste. Astounding looking film tho. Like a painting come to life.

My favorite condensation of existentialism is the Cronenberg phrase "body is reality". meaning that the the first fact of human existence is the human body. The farther philosophies drift from the biological reality of the body/brain the more abstract and detached and useless they become (to me).

Interesting. Did not know that. And not to overstate this petty shit but...for a guy who will spend hours finding clever ways to say that Stephen Miller is ugly (so many likes!!), he's not exactly adonis. The problem with Miller ain't the way he looks.

That guy...whew. For all the degrees and accolades....he'll spend hours on "doesn't THIS guy look weird??" And not to be mean but....mr personal aesthetics judgement, where is your chin? And if you WANT to be serious, not just chase clout...then be serious.

Like, I'm not saying that Newsom is "the same" as Joel Osteen, but....there is a certain shared quality there. And it's just not what I think people are going to vote for in 2028.

And at the risk of being pedantic, here is the context for the entire thread, featuring "medicare for all". Yglesias (who I also usually mute) is discussing Medicare for All and is quoting YOU talking about how Mamadni makes things look easy. Hopefully you can see the connection here.

Guys, he's a politician. This is politics. An impure sport. If Mamdani can butter up the old man and get a few billion for some good stuff for the city, he should. And when Jeffries talk to other republicans, yes even "in private" that is ALSO politics. The obsession with optics is stupid.
