i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.

as a reminder about all of my game jams and steam festivals.... games have been releasing for years before chatgpt became popular. you can still release games without using ai-generated assets. using ai-generated assets is a choice.

This is not true. Any game can be completed without using AI-generated assets. Games have been released for months, for years before Stable Diffusion and ChatGPT and the like came into the public. Your game could have been completed without AI-generated assets. You could have (and still can):
cut out the sections that didn't have finished artwork
used premade assets from sites like itch.io (right here) that weren't AI-generated
used placeholder assets
Using AI-generated assets is a choice, and that was the choice you made. We don't accept games that use AI generation.

As a heads up to new/old artists here it is -incredibly- important that you tag your work here or use specific phrases. Because not only do people check tags, your art has the chance to appear in multiple feeds! Unlearn not using twit hashtags and start following multiple feeds of YOUR choosing!

An anecdotal guideline on how I like to post art on Bluesky! This is what works for me, it might not be 100% solid so use it with a grain of salt 🙏 #arttips #artsky

A guide with recommendations on what size and format to post art in on Bluesky.

Bluesky converts images to JPEG/JPG so it is recommended to use your own software to export your art as JPEG/JPG. This is to avoid Bluesky's rough format conversion.

The minimum size seems to be 900 pixels on both the width and height dimensions with a maximum of 2000 pixels likewise.

The recommended size seems to be between 1200 pixels to 1800 pixels on both sides.

For pixel art, it is recommended to post exactly in 900 pixels or 1200 pixels for the width.

This is because the width seems to be the most important for pixel art online display.

Additional Notes:
The maximum is 2000 pixels, but recommended to keep below this to avoid possible compression.

Applying a "unsharpen mask" at 10% strength helps with image clearness.

To keep your art safe, do not upload in anything more than 72dpi.

I am a grown adult and appreciate it. Perhaps the better thing would be for BlueSky to leave filters off by default. I appreciate you bringing attention to the way it's targeting progressive stuff and not conservative; my bone to pick is with the idea the rude filter is bad.

This *is* useful for me. I'm progressive and do not like these people, but I find my energy sapped by watching others vent their anger this way and it encourages me to doomscroll more of people agreeing with me and NOT to actually take action in real life towards progressive causes.

I mostly share this perspective. If trying to learn how to be good at art, I do need to consume bad art so I can learn why it's bad and how it compares to the good (a skill I LITERALLY DIDN'T HAVE for awhile, I thought the poorly-done was well-done!), but if I just want to enjoy, I'll avoid bad.
