It means strawberry here, but I didn't recognize it. 🙃

I was really pleased with how well I was managing another solo dinner night with my tourist Spanish right up until the waitress asked me if I wanted "fresa" lemonade. That's a tricky word!

Steak and mushroom crepe with salad and potatoes, a paperback copy of the Iliad and a glass of non-fresas lemonade.

I read this while eating airplane cookies in my hotel bed, so, fair point!

I forgive Miami airport for being too big because I get to eat empanadas for breakfast.

I would also grumble about 8am-9am meetings on Monday! Too early!

That sounds absolutely not fun at all. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Fall flowers in the garden help a bit with seasonal depression. Curiosity will pull me outside every morning from now until December to see what's new. Look: this flower has a rogue bicolor petal!

A peachy-pink daisy-like chrysanthemum flower with one petal that is half pink/half red (or very dark pink).

I've been thinking a lot about persimmons today. Dreams of: Persimmon salsa Persimmon sugar cookies Razor thin slices of persimmon eaten directly off the knife blade I wandered around the Goss Kroger produce section willing a persimmon into existence and came home with a pomegranate.

I shouldn't have taken a class this semester. It is not the October to spend my Friday nights trying to come up with coherent class discussion posts or studying for quizzes.

one thing I hope people think about with this piece I guess is that country music looks a lot different if you acknowledge Black contributions and think about the way that a lot of stuff that could be country isn't just because it's by Black people. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/there-are-...

Nearly a decade after the runaway success of "Pachinko," @minjinlee.bsky.social's latest tackles sweeping themes such as education, ambition, and familial sacrifice. But tucked inside the pages of "American Hagwon" is a central question: What constitutes a good life?

In her latest book, the novelist tackles dislocation and familial sacrifice to ask: Is elite schooling always a passport to a good life?
