Goosebumps books are super easy reads. With halloween coming up, maybe that's a fun one they can share. A 10 year old could probably read to the younger ones. Check with the parents first but they were pretty tame aside from the ventriloquist dummy ones.

The 10 year old might enjoy the Animorphs books. I feel like they've aged pretty well aside from the '90s references. There are over 50 books, plus side books, but the kid will know if they like it from the first book, imo. No need to invest in more than that, and used copies are easy to find.

Ran out of gloves and can't continue processing my resin prints until more arrive. Annoyed at myself. I'm usually so much better at staying aware of what I have in the house, whether it's food or art supplies.

I'm similarly disappointed when I meet people who think dinosaurs weren't real. :(

It doesnt take away from your larger point, but that's an outdated ingredient list and foodbabe is awful, especially after latching onto the MAHA crap to grift some more. Pepsi got rid of the brominated vegetable oil in their sodas years ago and it's now banned. Canada was similarly late to ban it.

You mentioned OoT. Fwiw, it's not as long of a game by today's standards, so maybe you can get through it once you get your own copy too. :) And there are multiple versions to choose from, including an upcoming remake for the Switch 2. Might be worth waiting to see if there are QoL fixes.

In case anyone following isnt aware, it's not just an app for a specific area! It's been keeping me aware of a fire 5 miles away here in Utah too, even as local orgs have been super tight-lipped and absolutely failing to give us timely info. The fires have been so bad this year. :(

Ugh, I'm sorry. I used to live next to Hill Air Force base and the F-35s were the main reason we moved to a rural town. Anywhere nearby was just too much.

Models by CarolaFunder. Printed by me in standard resin. Painted with acrylic paint, alcohol inks, and pan pastels. Sealed in matte finish. I'm very pleased with them for now, but reserving the option to come back to them later after I build up my painting skills more.
A small herd of painted resin horses, just a few inches tall at the shoulder, stand upon a plastic organizer. There are 4 poses: standing and looking straight ahead, standing and gently looking to the left, grazing, and a larger draft horse standing strong and alert.
Each is painted uniquely, with coats in shades of black, gray, white, and browns.

My childhood home had at least two types (himilayan and dewberry) and they were both amazing. Nothing storebought has ever come close to eating them off the vines, warmed by the sun. I'd grow them here in northern utah if i could keep them alive/under control haha.

At least the socks folded down so the lace didnt touch my skin, but they went with buckled shoes for church. Awful. Nothing about dressing up for church felt good. I feel bad about it because my mom *made* my Christmas and Easter dresses and that's so much labor. :( I was def. a tomboy too.

Finally got my airbrush gun to work again! The damned thing wouldnt align quite right after cleaning+reassembly and I was getting worried I'd somehow broken it. Back to painting animal figurines tomorrow. :)

Recently returned from a road trip that included a visit to my childhood home. I needed the ocean and redwoods. <3 It felt deeply healing. I need to find a slice of quiet nature here in northern rural Utah, and I don't know of anything that comes close. God, I miss trees. And water.
Photo of some seaweed-covered rocks and shallow water at low tide. The sea is bright blue and calm. The water closest to the viewer is transparent but becomes opaque blue towards the horizon. Not much is visible underwater but rocks and the dimmest hint of an orange starfish in the shadows of a large rock on the left.
A shady grove of redwood trees. The trees tower above and block most of the sunlight even in the bright afternoon.
There are large burls on the tree in the foreground. Ferns grow, but the needles on the ground prevent grass from sprouting. Sunlit foliage peeks between the trunks.A view taken looking up at the canopy of tall redwood trees above. Hints of blue sky are visible, and some sunlight reaches down, but it's obviously shady down at the base of the trunks.

Theres not anything specific on weed like there is for coffee, tea, alcohol, and tobacco. Its not mentioned in Doctrine&Covenants Section 89 unless you're being cheeky (image attached). Its frowned upon as a mind-altering drug, but can given a pass if prescribed by a doctor for a reason.
Screenshot of mormon scripture, doctrine and covenants section 89, verses 10-11.
It reads: 10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—

11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving.

I think I was 2003. I mostly painted pokemon fan art and dragons. It was fun. Talented people gave details on how they made their art and gave them stories. It felt like I could get to their level someday with how apporachable that community of actual professional artists felt. Site is terrible now.

Tough to tell from that angle, but were there a lot of extra benches around? In the oakland temple, when i was doing vicarious baptisms for the dead, they told us that sometimes people saw the spirits of people they were getting baptized for, sitting on those benches.

I was a california mormon teen girl in a former life, and unlike my utah peers, we did not have temples close. Each one was a long drive away. So most girls in my church classes had a favorite temple they daydreamed about marrying in. San Diego and Salt Lake City were the most popular picks by far.

I'm doing resin prints right now, and I use airbrushed acrylic and alcohol inks. I've also been using pan pastels for my horses but I'm still learning! I spray sealers between layers. I've used acrylic on a few FDM prints in the past but didn't have the sanding tools so it was always really rough.

fiery @elementalembers.art · 22/06/2026
If you're new to painting 3d printed figures, sanding is nonnegotiable, imo. Sand. Clean. Prime. Sand again if you have to. That's applicable to mediums 2d and 3d: impatience to get to the fun part (painting in my case!) needs to wait until there's a good foundation.

I'm so incapable of tolerating heat. I have been for as long as I can remember. Road trips across Nevada as a kid were tortuous and I spent the car rides pressing ice from the cooler against my face The part of my brain that knows how to focus breaks at 73 degrees. So this day was lost hours ago. 🫠

I felt the same about fish n chips after visiting Wales. There is nothing that comes close here in Utah. Fish n chips and a can of dandelion & burdock soda is perfect on a gloomy wet day. I've seen the mexican food offerings in smaller towns in the UK. That's going to be a tough craving to satisfy.

When i first moved out on my own, that was a fear. But most frustrating was not having a fridge. I couldnt buy more than one meal at a time with perishables. I couldnt safely store leftovers (or even produce) in my 100F apartment because it would all go off so fast *and* attract pests.

This has been said to death but I'll just say it again: if you're in the creative arts space stop calling your art "content". Call it "work"! Calling your art "work" shows it's the result of time and skill. "Content" makes something sound like it has no purpose other than to take up space.

Those are prices for like, tiny town farmers markets. If you're lucky. I know it was rhetorical, but I do wonder if there's a perception that the prices are just kind of in the same ballpark no matter what venue you're tabling at.

Ah, no. The server is just part of the home network. It has some shared drives for multiple devices to access and save to, which makes life easier-- especially jumping between ipad and windows. Backblaze is a company that offers backup services. I'm not sure what their pricing is like now.

fiery @elementalembers.art · 04/05/2026
My art files are on a server downstairs, and the important folders get backed up every night to Backblaze, encrypted. I shouldn't ever lose more than a day's work. Ideally I would have them saved somewhere else too, but I have a difficult time establishing and keeping habits.

They also sell blanks for the machines that have different backings--so not just pins, but also magnets, tiny mirrors, keychain attachment points. Etc. I have a 2.25 inch one but i know I've seen the various blanks in smaller sizes too.

This is my county and people here are *pissed off* but our local governments arent listening to us. They're also ramming through nuclear reactors in our county after stripping regulations and not being transparent. We don't have the water for the people here. The Great Salt Lake is drying up.

This is true even in places like Utah that don't pay much for those jobs. Restaurants, grocery, and customer service jobs constantly try to reduce hours for employees.

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

I set up my booth tent yesterday for the first time in the back yard, to make sure it all works. It made it feel more real. :D I'm trying hard to keep my expectations low and remind myself that I'll make mistakes with my first market. It's still a huge step for me to try to sell my art in person.

You can hide all signs of ai in Affinity by removing the canva tab. The same team in the uk is still working on it for now. There's no forced ai use. In order to use ai-assisted object selection, you have to choose to download the model for it. That was also there in Version 2 before acquisition.

Some of the earliest artwork that was availabble in the US for gen 1 was scanned/edited poorly. Ditto specifically was extremely washed out. Other details (teeth, horns, size) weren't consistent from the early Sugimori watercolor art to the anime/later gen games. Lapras used to have prominent fangs.

I've had a lot of fun designing these bookmarks. I know bookmarks are simple, but it's satisfying to have my #DigitalArt actually exist in the real world in a way I can hold it in my hands. Digital paintings in #Rebelle 8, layout and final touches in #Affinity.
Five 2"x8" bookmarks arranged on a 8.5"x11" page. The illustrations are digitally painted.
One features a honeybee with berry blossom and berries against a hexagon background with gradient.
One has a mallard duck dabbling in murky water.
Another has a raccoon in a pile of Autumn leaves.
Another has a carousel seahorse with the phrase, "Dive into a book."
The last one has various produce that is grown locally.Printed, laminated, tasseled bookmarks with previously shown designs set on top of a yellow notebook. A hole puncher and extra tassels are seen in the background.
