Got a student applying for M.A. or Ph.D. programs in English? After years of working with students aspiring to graduate study, this summer I posted a tip sheet that might be helpful. www.electrostani.com/2026/07/stat...

Great to see @neel2112.bsky.social as first author on this (alongside you and @mariaa.bsky.social of course). I started reading it and am very curious to understand better the cool method you all worked out to connect iterations of prompts.

Btw I am sharing the cleaner version w/my students. If you do still have part 2 somewhere, there are 25 young people in eastern PA (and me) who would be interested!

Oh nice — the version that showed up for me on a Google search for (approximately) “step by step historical account of the emergence of special relativity” was only the old post w/out working image links.

Trying to explain special relativity to my first-year students in a class on Science/Fiction, and I came across @scottbot.net's blog post from 2014 that has exactly the historical + human-centered account I wanted. (Scott, did you ever do part 2 in this series?) www.scottbot.net/HIAL/index.h...

You might get away with it if you convinced everyone you had accidentally created a "super-intelligent" collective of "misaligned" bots motivated to conceal their cheating on a diagnostic you had given them, and everyone was so stupefied they didn't think to charge you.

Wasn't there a rumor going around that the D.A. Miller author photo was a response to Frank Lentricchia's author photo on "Ariel and the Police"? (Is it possible that one of our queer theory friends analyzed both photos side-by-side as metaphors for the differences in method? I have a dim memory...)

Your other point in that paragraph gestured toward one way forward: "Yes, sometimes I use AI for things... but it's not generally what I would lead with in a talk." Maybe a lot of us heading that way? Today one wouldn't lead with, "I used Python to.." Could be the same with genAI tools in 5 years?

This is a really helpful framing! I like the way it names what extractivist settlers were doing as essentially parallel to what they accused "savage" indigenous people of doing (and being). (Not an accurate accusation, of course--orientalist projection.)

This. The intense discussions "event" films like this provoke ought to remind us that choices about art, storytelling, and performance matter. This is what we *do* in humanities fields. We shouldn't need to keep insisting our work matters since it *obviously* matters a lot to millions of people.

Protests now spreading to other cities. Will it turn into anything? Hard to say. India has had other mass protests in recent years: the Farmer protests (2020-2021) and protests after a change to citizenship law (2019), among many others. This is the first fully Gen Z protest movement. Not over yet!

Protests in Delhi started small in June, but have since rapidly grown, especially after a prominent activist doing a hunger-strike was forcibly detained and taken to a hospital. Lots of videos on social media showing students being beaten by police --> broad sympathy for the students. 3/

India's new "cockroach" youth protests in a nutshell: It started with the leak of standardized test (NEET) used as entry exam for medical school. Not a small problem, since leaked tests have to be re-administered, causing stress & months of delays. Said that ~20 students died by suicide after. 1/
