The park would also grant access to adjacent National Forest lands, access to which is currently complicated by their isolation. Of note is the fact that Kiona Peak and the surrounding area was once home to an extensive trail network, & this new park and trail system would rebuild of that heritage.

The landscape here is home to former lookout sites, impressive rock formations, and numerous vantage points and miniature mountains, each of which would make an attractice hiking destination.

The plan to drill a new tunnel, build an industrial haul road, and lower the level of Spirit Lake would be absolutely catastrophic for the lake, the recovering blast zone, and for local communities. It would also waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Professional fireworks displays are a great alternative to personal fireworks. They limit the area impacted by fireworks noise, eliminate the risk of accidental fires, and provide a more spectacular display.

I also dread the likely fires which are so frequently sparked by fireworks. It is because of these explosives that a large portion of the Columbia Gorge and Olympic National Park experienced catastrophic fires over the past several years.

Dogs and cats are similarly affected by the countryside being turned into a war zone, and it always pains me to see all the posts online about missing pets which inevitably appear online around Independence Day.

Happy independance day! Please think about all the animals (both wild and domestic) before you set off fireworks this 4th of July. This baby Robin has only just left the nest this morning, and he's being subjected to all the stress of a battlefield as people set off explosives all around.

This is the line for the bathrooms this morning at Paradise in Mt. Rainier National Park (MRNP webcam). The overcrowding problem in our National Parks has an obvious solution: build new large, wild parks nearer to our towns and cities.

Out bringing in the hay this week! Southwest Washington is home to some of the most productive and beautiful farmland in the state, but that precious heritage is at risk as more of these fertile lands are buried beneath suburbs, warehouses, and strip malls each year.

Too much of the landscape is locked up behind corporate gates, our watersheds are being doused in carcinogens, clearcuts blight the mountains, forests are being paved over, and USACE continues to make an even worse mess of the Toutle River.

I grew up in Toutle in the years after Mt. St. Helens erupted, many of the trees growing tall in the Monument today are the same age as I, and some of my earliest memories are of the beautiful desolation of the area in the 90s.

If elected, I want to create a large new park Northwest of Morton, adding many miles of hiking, equestrian, and mountain biking trails in the mountains overlooking Morton. This would help Morton to build a vibrant and robust tourism and outdoor recreation economy.

It was great to talk with folks out in Morton yesterday at the "Noodles and Neighbors" event, hosted by @lewiscountydemocrats.org I had some really interesting conversations with people from the area, and afterwards stopped by Gust Backstrom City Park to take a look at the waterfall there.
