Excited to share my recent pub, www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti.... Attitudes, stigma, self-efficacy, and norms all affect wound care nurses' delivery of harm reduction care to people who use drugs. Intervention work targeting behavior is needed to improve access to care. #coincidenceanalysis

As a wound care nurse + researcher, watching The Pitt tackle xylazine wounds felt personal. They got some things right—but missed key realities. Here’s my take 👇 open.substack.com/pub/eleanort...

As a harm reduction researcher, I've seen that encampment sweeps don’t fix homelessness. They disrupt care, fracture trust, and make it harder to get care. Residents are asking for low-barrier safe sleep sites, storage, and dignity. That’s not radical. It's public health. archive.ph/ewTbD

New study: By 2023, primary care NPs were the largest bup prescribers for Medicaid patients with OUD in Philly. NPs & MDs treated similar complexity & ending the X‑waiver didn’t change prescribing Grateful for my partners at Penn/CBH/DBHIDS who made this work possible 💙 doi.org/10.1097/jxx....

Buprenorphine prescribing is increasingly delivered by primary care nurse practitioners to Medicaid beneficiaries - PubMed
NPs play a critical role in expanding access to buprenorphine treatment for Medicaid patients with OUD. Similar patient complexity across providers supports the potential for broader NP involvement in OUD care. The lack of change after X-waiver removal suggests that other factors influence prescribi …

PA rolled out a Medicaid street place-of-service code in 2023. We talked to 13 orgs across PA. Only 4 are using it. Barriers: burdensome; fee-for-service doesn’t fit the mission; provider eligibility is narrow. Time to expand eligibility (RNs 😊) and rethink payment models. @ncsp-penn.bsky.social

📉 Medicaid cuts could strip opioid treatment from 150,000 people, LDI and @bostonu.bsky.social researchers warn. A @nytimes.com editorial says this threatens the 25% drop in overdose deaths since 2023. Progress is fragile — and lives are at risk. Read the editorial: www.nytimes.com/2025/08/28/o...

Low-barrier wound care is critical for people who use drugs, especially as xylazine drives a surge in necrotic wounds. LDI's @eleanorturi.bsky.social, Shoshana Aronowitz, Amanda Bettencourt, @dsmandell.bsky.social, Courtney Wolk, & colleagues show how we can scale this care effectively.

Dr. Oz walked through Kensington to hear how crucial Medicaid is in fighting the overdose crisis, but the work requirements he backs will cut care. Most people with substance use disorders are already locked out of the job market. Tying healthcare to work ignores that reality—and puts lives at risk.

Bedside RNs and PhD nurses are essential to health care, but nurse-scientists are forced to choose between caring for patients and driving research forward. We need to invest in nurses who can do both. Our new @statnews.com op-ed is out: www.statnews.com/2025/04/28/n... #Nursing #FirstOpinion

Nurse-scientists shouldn’t have to choose between research and caring for patients
While physician-scientists are supported in splitting their time between research and clinical work, nurse-scientists are not.

As fentanyl deaths plunge, communities scramble to help survivors
Deaths from street fentanyl have dropped more than thirty percent. That's good news. But it means cities and small towns face far more deeply ill people addicted to toxic drugs.
