With enough money, you can become a shareholder, press for corporate changes that will grant you a short-term return on investment, but leave the company in a precarious position for the future, sell your stake, and walk away leaving the workers at the company to deal with the fallout.

My fear with the AI “breaking containment” stories is more that its posturing to ensure AI models will be forever “closed source”. Imagine if Linux, android, and chromium were all closed source with no open source alternatives. Do you think Windows, mobile OSes, and Chrome would be better or worse?

Look, it’s fine* if you have the personal mindset that you should “vote blue no matter who,” but you should absolutely never be expressing that out loud or as a general strategy for others. If you do, you’re telling the party that they can ignore your wishes because you’ll vote for them anyway.

Houses are for homes, not investments. Housing prices decreasing is a good thing. It allows more renters to buy, which lowers rent as vacancies open, which makes it less likely for the poor to go homeless and makes it more likely for the homeless to be able to afford rent again.

Honestly if you want to solve the AI issue you mostly need two things: If trained with data under fair use, the model must be open source as knowledge sharing is the whole point of fair use. AI companies assume all costs for training, not externalized to communities near data centers.
