My fear with the AI “breaking containment” stories is more that its posturing to ensure AI models will be forever “closed source”. Imagine if Linux, android, and chromium were all closed source with no open source alternatives. Do you think Windows, mobile OSes, and Chrome would be better or worse?

Great. Outsource parenting to AI because no one “has time” to read about how to parent. I guess that level of minimal involvement is better than what parents are doing now, which is just letting schools and the internet parent their kids.

Houses are for homes, not investments. Housing prices decreasing is a good thing. It allows more renters to buy, which lowers rent as vacancies open, which makes it less likely for the poor to go homeless and makes it more likely for the homeless to be able to afford rent again.

Honestly if you want to solve the AI issue you mostly need two things: If trained with data under fair use, the model must be open source as knowledge sharing is the whole point of fair use. AI companies assume all costs for training, not externalized to communities near data centers.
