Eldar @eldar.social · 01/10/2026This is going to sound cynical, but Americans have to stop waiting for scheduled dates to go out and protest. You can't wait for an invite to get out and then just go home. It's not a freaking birthday party. 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 27/09/2026This is going to be a fun CAD/3d printing project... by far the most ambitious thing I will have tried. Hoping to go from the unbearable ~70dBA on to bearable ~45dBA, given the thing will sit in my living room. Wish me luck 😅 100
Eldar @eldar.social · 27/09/2026How does A24 keep pumping out great film after great film. Backrooms was sooo good. 100
Eldar @eldar.social · 26/09/2026I love Nvim, but how on earth is it so freaking bad at auto-restoring sessions. Every plugin for this is riddled with bugs and quirks. They all work 80% of the time, never 100% of the time. This is like Code Editor 101 shit, how is this not built in with top-notch support... 🤦 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 25/09/2026I think I do 95% of my "web searching" through OpenCode in the terminal now. Compared to 0% two months ago. 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 21/09/2026If you had excuses for not rebasing before LLMs (e.g. conflicts are confusing, etc), that's all gone now. Merge is dead. 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 19/09/2026Figured it out... It feels exactly like talking in multiple Slack threads and DMs at once. 010
Eldar @eldar.social · 18/09/2026I gotta say, using frontier models to do long-running, deep research (e.g. on the entire codebase and org docs/chat/etc. knowledge base) is very effective. 100

Eldar @eldar.social · 08/09/2026What a boss move. This guy is the Philippine DefSec, got slipped a note from, supposedly, the Chinese delegation mid-panel, and choose to read it out loud. youtu.be/ikQbxzXmZSMyoutu.beGilberto Teodoro calls out China at Seoul Defense Dialogue YouTube video by Philstar News 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 05/09/2026Sure would've been nice if software engineers unionized before all these AI layoffs, eh? 110
Eldar @eldar.social · 04/09/2026Using latest frontier models for regular software dev work is the LLM equivalent of the "build a $3000 gaming rig to play Minecraft". 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 03/09/2026How have I never watched 12 Monkeys (film or show). The film is great, but the show... holy shit. 000
Eldar @eldar.social · 02/09/2026Before I moved back to Canada, I was talking to a US colleague. I mentioned how US going to literal (not just trade) war with Canada seems ridiculous, until you account for a few years of the MAGA news cycle. She didn't believe me. That was almost a year ago, and we're half way there. 010
Eldar @eldar.social · 01/09/2026There is no difference between Hasan Piker and Tucker Carlson. They just target different audiences. Pick better allies. 100
Eldar @eldar.social · 31/08/2026Semi-related, I think we need to rename more web things to space things... 020
Eldar @eldar.social · 30/08/2026It's so nice to have a separate party for moderate/centrist liberalism. US really needs this, so the Dems don't eat themselves alive each election cycle. 000

Eldar @eldar.social · 27/06/2026Fun times getting an eGPU to work in Nix. Took forever to figure out, but was getting eGPU -> iGPU -> eGPU -> monitor loop that capped output to 50fps. Had to get Gnome/Mutter to prefer eGPU, but only when plugged in. A few hours of banging my head against (aka learning) udev, and we're in business. 110
Eldar @eldar.social · 29/05/2026For a while there, I used to think that the problem with social media was centralization (e.g. Twitter), and Bsky solved that. These days, I think the problem is social media itself. Bsky/ATProto (mostly) solve centralization, but the end result is still a cesspool of uninformed, half-baked slop. 130
