This artwork, titled Face and Flowers, was painted in 1957 by the iconic Australian modern artist Charles Blackman.

The painting belongs to Blackman’s prominent early themes from the 1950s that frequently juxtaposed solitary, melancholic human profiles with vibrant floral elements.The heavy use of shadow, dreamlike green tones, and a warped perspective are typical of his emotional and psychological style during this era. His frequent depiction of faces with flowers was deeply personal, largely inspired by his wife and muse, Barbara Blackman, who was progressively losing her sight and relied on flowers as some of her last vibrant sensory stimuli.

A crab was seen feeding on dead skin from a person’s foot. Crabs will eat almost any organic matter they come across, including dead skin and tiny parasites. Human skin cells contain proteins and nutrients, so to a crab, dead skin can simply seem like an easy food source. Original post
