one of the things I really like about Male Fantasies is he's not presenting a totalizing system. There are maybe whole sections of the book that can be thrown away while still doing what you're doing and ripping the good meat from the bone

Okay so Male Fantasies is a 1977 book written by Klaus Theweleit, a sociologist who grew up in post-war Germany grappling with the male culture of his parents and grandparents, essentially, and how it led to the Freikorps and eventually the Nazis.

the rapid sounds of all manner of caresses. In a silent exchange,
he drinks in the breath of his beloved and tenderly offers her his
own.2
Another soldier with his beloved:
"How warm you are," he said with devotion, "how full of life,
how sweet your breathing. . . . What comes after you will not
be breathing; it will be cold forever. .. . It will be like this,
the way I feel it now, in this silent moment when I can feel your
breath."

The use of expressions such as "arteries" and "full-blooded" may
already have alerted attentive readers to the fact that the love objects in all
three of these cases are horses. The first shows a student with an officer's
horse:

"Male Fantasies Volume 1" begins with Theweleit making clear that Freikorps soldiers - as a rule - leave their wives unnamed in their novels. The wives function purely as signifiers, not as people. Fascos is a movement away from women towards a world of relationships between men.
