I think in my variety of English (west coast us/pnw) we call them bars. Lemon bars, s’mores bars etc. But I think if you asked for a lemon square in context there might be a moment of hesitation but then they’d get it.

For supporting people in the Tacoma immigration detention center in particular, the 2 orgs to look into are the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) and La Resistencia; the former is more paperwork/know your rights/legal aid focused and the latter holds a lot of in person protests.

Hi! Feel free to ignore possibly unwanted advice from a total stranger. I have always struggled with keeping the seat belt between my (very large) boobs. My best friends in this struggle are “seat belt covers” and “seat belt pads” that make the belt less slippery so it stays in place.

I also think this would be less of a problem if we took pain relief seriously when kids get shots. Topical numbing cream exists! But my MMR booster hurt like breaking a bone and mostly parents and doctors are like ha ha have a sucker.

The app doesn’t have groups, it just sees where you are and decides who’s close enough to be local to you. Meanwhile my fb bn group split cause it was too big at a tiny fraction of the size of the app’s “local” to me area. It’s not currently a useable solution.

My whole family was once bitten by a baby Mojave rattler (too little to be venomous) that my dad ran into traffic to save. Which could have been a bad experience, but what I remember was my dad’s love, for snakes and other small ungrateful creatures.

I took a friend who grew up in Mexico to take his drivers test and get his license and all the way home he was just in awe. He went to a government office to get a service with broad discretion and got what he needed. He didn’t have to bribe anybody! What a well run country!

My mom’s Byzantine church has an Easter vigil that starts in darkness and candles and ends with the church ablaze with light singing “trampling down death by death!” and stomping on the floor. And then they have breakfast at 3am. It’s just incredible, whatever you believe.

My dad (retired bio prof) has a delightful story about smuggling toads internationally (they had permits but since impound=dead toads decided better forgiveness than permission so didn’t declare). They started calling when the doors closed and he took them to the bathroom to shush them.
