They could probably take some ideas from the gadgets and make them balanced for pvp. I personally think the splashdown gadget for speed is a lot more interesting than triple splashdown and wouldn't mind that coming into pvp toned back a bit

Yeah, running both a capped and uncapped at the same time is dumb. I do like playing in both depending on what I need in terms of practice, but there should really be less tourneys being run at the same time as people tend to take the easy way out.

#compsplatoon Thought experiment - what is the best splatoon weapon in its respective game? (like S3 stamper, S2 K.52 or S1 Slosher) It has to be playable at the end of the games balance tho (as in no early patch weapon like launch tri Slosher in S2 for example).

It is unfortunate though that some high level players may be caught in the crossfire. Not everyone likes playing solo queue, and especially support or anchor weapons have a very hard time at low calcs if they can’t solo carry. Any weapon *can* do well, but repeated losses can be demoralising. 2/2

I genuinely do not know if I am as good at splatoon as people have told me. People say I am very good at the game, but I have very little proof of that. My results in tourneys are not the best, I struggle to get decent x powers, and I just feel really inconsistent at times. It feels like a delusion.

That is the tricky part. It would be hard to implement, but if to make a better ranking system then trying to implement this type of system would be worth it. It would take time to get accurate and balance correctly, but the mode needs adjustments badly to make it less frustrating for the player.

Even if they just utilise what I listed above it would be better. Giving more points for being the best player and less points for not contributing as much. Same for losses by punishing player less if they played well in those games. This would bring some control to players for their rank.

That's the tricky part. You'd need to make a system that bases rank on individual performance. This can be a combination of game stat's, objective performance, etc, with wins boosting it and losses reducing it. There are ways to base rank outside of wins, they are just harder to implement.

The only solution I can think of is using the medals and maybe other stat's to increase or decrease the score you get at the end of a set. This would base it more on individual skill by rewarding the player for playing well while reducing the likelihood of getting carried to higher ranks.

That could certainly help, but I don't think it solves the main issue. It still has the problem of losing due to bad luck with matchmaking despite your best efforts. The system itself needs a rework to make it feel like players are actually in control of their rank.

Overall, basing the rank on factors other than skill causes the mode to feel very luck based and takes control away from the player, making the mode feel way worse than it needs to be. This also means X rank is not a good reflection of skill. This really needs to change in the next game.

The reverse also happens, where you can have the skill higher above the rank, but due to unlucky matchmaking you can get stuck in lowers powers. Some people can lose points despite playing correctly due to teams with very uneven skill.

The thing I hear most to win is that you need to be the best player in the lobby in order to do well. This is not good design. This is a team game. You shouldn't have to carry. This also creates the problem of people who get a higher rank than their actual skill due to your carrying.

X Battles needs to be based on something other than wins for determining rank. The current system turns it from a game of skill to a game of luck, where you can do literally everything right, and still lose. This causes lots of frustration, and makes the mode very stressful and un-fun.
