What is happening in Gaza is a genocide, in my opinion, because the level and pace of indiscriminate killing, destruction, mass expulsion, displacement, deliberate famine, executions, the wiping out of universities, cultural and religious institutions, the crushing of elites (including the killing of journalists), and the sweeping dehumanization of the Palestinians create an overall picture of genocide, of the intentional and conscious shattering of Palestinian existence in Gaza. Palestinian Gaza, as a geographical, political, cultural, and human entity no longer exists. Genocide is the deliberate destruction of a collective or part of it, not of all of its individual members – and that is what is happening in Gaza today.

First of all, I think that this passage from "The Problematic Return Of Intent" by Amos Goldberg, in which he quotes Dirk Moses, really captures where I have been at this entire time (screen grab with alt text): 🧵>

In this article, Moses argues that the legal standard of “intent” is so high that it is unlikely to be met in a court of law. Here's a great way to know if a post about Israel is antisemitic: If it uses a classic amtisemitic trope - like Jews controlling the govt - and just replaces "Jews" with "Israel". Because Israel doesn't "control" the US any more than Jews do.

The first ever #Pride #Shabbat at my Orthodox congregation in Highland Park, NJ, was a HUGE success. We usually max out at about 40 when we gather but by the time we got to lunch after services we were 100 strong!!! Yes, there ARE Orthodox Shuls who celebrate and welcome our holy LGBTQ+ siblings.

FWIW, we LOVE LOVE LOVE the Whirlpool brand one that our rental came with. Don't know if they make it anymore but it's super quiet and heated dry has to be selected (instead of deselected) Here's an image of the control panel if it still exists. (My wife made the slider sign to indicate flavor)

Today my family remembers Pvt Lewis Kahn, my grandfather's first cousin who was KIA in Normandy a month after the invasion. While other relatives have served in the US army he is the only one we know of who died while fighting. May his memory and those of all whom we have lost be a blessing.

This was in response to my pointing out that Israel isn't by definition a liberal democracy due to the fact that the millions of non-citizen Palestinians under Israel's control don't have basic human rights. (I've never been accused of sophistry before)

I would like to tell @elchupalabras.itch.io that were they to travel to Central NJ I think that they would be VERY pleased with the spice levels at our local places. We have a huge Indian immigrant community and even asking for MILD spice when ordering food can be way too hot for the uninitiated.

I am so excited that in just two weeks I have the honor and privilege to read Chapter 1 of Megillat Esther for a new shul's first ever Purim service and celebration. This will be a VERY heartfelt shehecheyanu. Shul is Open Orthodox* - anyone in Central NJ wants to learn more about it please DM me.
