I would urge people to recall, as we hear the government justify their choices in the coming budget, that long before the fuel protests, this govermment gave a massive and economically unjustifiable VAT cut to hospitality, which cost more than half of what an additional child benefit payment would

Have to share my thoughts on Venus, Vanishing by Rebecca Birrell. The claustrophobia of entering the world of a queer Jewish artist in 1930s Berlin. The inevitability of what's about to happen. The author has done a fabulous job, and it's heartbreaking. #BookSky #QueerLit
Front cover of Venus, Vanishing by Rebecca Birrell. The cover is predominantly yellow with a black window upon which a woman from the 1930s sits, peering at her own reflection. She is depicted in black and white, as if from a period typical photograph.
Praise for the book appears on the front cover. 'Gripping, gorgeously written.' Joanna Quinn.
'This vivid novel of 1930s Berlin asks what it means to make art in an emergency.' Eleanor Catton

Stop giving family members of disabled people a platform over disabled voices. Family members are important but we should not be prioritizing them in media stories about issues affecting disabled people. If you can't find a direct link, find a DPO. Find an advocate with the same disability.

So, reading that the railway was seen as part of British imperialism (i.e. to rapidly move soldiers around the country) explains a bit why we weren't too mad about them. Also explains how extensive they were. Of course, I spent my childhood lamenting the end of the Waterford-Cork railway line.
