Adjacent to this is the sad lack of browsing/ chance discovery in the stacks of the library where I work. The circ desk is more a concierge service now, and staff are discouraged from telling patrons to seek out a book/ item themselves. As if we’re inconveniencing them. As if they might get lost.

Trump officially rolled back fuel efficiency standards today. The new target for 2031 is about 34.5 miles per gallon, down from 50.4. That means more gas burned, more pollution, and more money out of drivers’ pockets. So much for making things affordable.
