It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

It's good Carney has a strong political hand to engage with external challenges, as his popularity gives him an edge dealing with someone like Trump whose numbers are in free-fall. But this aura of invincibility really sucks when trying to contend with problematic aspects of his domestic agenda.

So, I fully disagree here, municipalities are absolutely the right order of government to make decisions on the water resources and power infrastructure they oversee. Ontario has demonstrated they have no interest in taking into account municipal investments or priorities in those areas.

How can municipal government be expected to make the right choices when they are starved for resources, are robbed of representation and undermined at every turn? Even the so called "new deal" for Toronto was an infrastructure deal with limited operational support. Let us raise our own $ ffs!

While absolutely correct on municipal failures on housing speaking specifically for Toronto, every other file impacting cities, Ontario (*cough Doug Ford *cough) has demonstrated they do not understand municipal needs or what makes a great city work and how cities drive the economy.
