In the world of soaps, women’s issues take front-burner status
Soap operas air five days a week. That frequency allows for — and demands — pioneering storytelling, especially when it comes to gender.

The first of the (vast) coverage of new CBS soap, Beyond the Gates, that actually engages with the industry logics that CBS and P&G are employing. No surprise that they include value of soap streaming audience AND brand integrations, just like a proper 1930s radio serial. variety.com/2025/tv/news...

Elana Levine @ehl.bsky.social · 25/01/2025
That’s a good description and I think why I decided to watch- was pretty sure it would be more gross than scary. I don’t like gross but knew I could just not look when I didn’t want to

Elana Levine @ehl.bsky.social · 24/01/2025
oh, there are a number of those, and some are kinda gross. I don't think anything goes into or comes out of an eye if that helps (that would really ick me out) - maybe otherwise at end when I wasn't looking much

Elana Levine @ehl.bsky.social · 24/01/2025

I don't like horror but I mostly mean creepy monster-types and jump scares. Don't like gross stuff either but watched The Substance last night and just closed my eyes when I didn't wanna see. I found excessive violence in last act the worst part (tho basically didn't watch any of it)
