looks like I misread, and it's not T036A Leland's pod, it's the subpod of her daughter T036A1/Tierna and Tierna's two calves (A1A Drift born 2022 and presumed A1B the new one). So T137/Loon + her niece T036A1/Tierna, and no T137A/Jack (but apparently T065A5/Indy was with them today in Carr).

Is this the 36As (Leland, sister of Loon), or just the 36A1s (Tierna)?

Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Interesting that Jack/T137A disperses to hang out with his grandmother Flapjack/T036 and aunt Tattertip/T036B, then his mom Loon/T137's pod reappears with her sister Leland/T036A's pod and what may be neice Leland/T036A1's newest calf. A1A was born in 2022 so an A1B is possible ...

If not for the notch it'd be easy to think those were two separate dorsals, with the lean and angle making the lower one look skinnier. Indy and his chameleon dorsal!

Still tracking, for anyone who's interested: www.youtube.com/live/r4uM5q5...
screencapture from a webcam stream, timestamped 2026-09-22 13:42:41 in the upper righthand corner. The dorsal fin and back of an orca just coming to surface for air can be seen in the far lower lefthand corner. The backdrop is a cliffside of trees down to the water.

I deliberately do these screengrabs in a manner that displays both the exact timestamp and the orca location relative to the timestamp to make it easier for someone to figure out where it is if they want to go back.

Pod slowed down a bit, is more towards mid-channel, and the Emerald Clipper has caught up and slowed down behind them. Off the Marine Reserve, headed towards Point Robinson.

Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
They haven't had boats around them for a while, but the Emerald Clipper has left Dalco/Browns Point and is zooming northeast up lower East Passage. They'll meet up with the pod in a couple of minutes at the current rate of speed.

Steady travel, now well north of Gold Beach and heading towards Pt Robinson. Fairly tight grouping (for now), and midchannel in the southbound shipping lane; not hugging the dropoff just off Maury like they often do.
110
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Heading north/east up Lower East Passage, currently in the southbound shipping channel (a bit further out from Maury shoreline than typical) off Summerhurst
010
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Resumed east/northeast travel, heading towards the Maury side of Lower East Passage (typical). The several harbor porpoise north of Dash Point on the mainland side would be very relieved.

When was the rest of his family last sighted? Been a while! Idle thought - the T137s are long overdue for a calf. Loon still had 10+ years of fertility after Wright but didn't have one, may be past that at ~43 now. Both Tempest (age ~20) and Wright (age ~14) are old enough to have had calves.

FAWMStock was wonderful. Thank you @fawmchallenge.bsky.social Touching grass with new friends was good for the soul and the creativity.
Image Summary: A deer is listening to someone playing guitar; the image is taken from inside a building, through the window, and the musician is sitting on the porch outside.
Detailed Description: View through a window, from the inside of the building. The window is a side-slider and cracked open about four inches. Just outside the window, and visible from behind and about the midback upwarads, is a person playing guitar. The player is wearing a red yarn cap and dark blue-black jacket. They are playing guitar as evidenced by the neck and head extending out to the left, with capo and fingers visible. Their height relative to the balcony indicates they are sitting on the edge of the porch.
An adult doe mule deer is standing a few dozen yards beyond the guitar player. Her head is raised and ears extended, listening to the musician.
Above and behind is a grassy field, with an archery target visible to the far back left and trees lining the far edge.

3. Any goat not infected directly likely got infected soon afterwards because they're herd animals that play together, practice social grooming, nip and playfight for dominance, and so on.
010
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Likely this: 1. Skunk wandered into the paddock/stall, baby goat bounced over to greet the new playmate, and got bitten. 2. Passive immunity from maternal antibodies had waned enough it didn't stop the virus, and the babies weren't old enough their immune systems would respond to vaccines.
020
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Rabies vaccinations are standard offerings for livestock. Some fairs, competitions, boarding facilities and so on require current rabies vaccinations before they'll accept the horse/cow/goat/sheep/etc. One infected animal could mean the entire herd ends up infected or euthanized.
010
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Livestock is at risk of getting rabies, too! A curious goat or horse tries to sniff the skunk/raccoon/bobcat that entered its pasture, and is bitten. Often on the face or nose it poked at the rabid visitor, which means the virus is very close to the ultimate Game Over destination, the brain.
001
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
The cluster of shots in treatment would have been globulin to get antibodies into your system ASAP to kill off any virus before it got to the brain. It is nowhere near as horrible a process as it was when I was a child but it still hurts and sucks and I'm sorry you had to go through it.
000
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Makes sense, and also (after reading your experience) - what you had was the post-exposure treatment which is far more complex, lots more shots, tons more expensive, and just happens to include the regular preventative vaccine as part of the mix. "Lasts 10 years" is the vaccine, not the treatment.
010
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Yeah, vaccines shouldn't cost so much that people end p having to risk the disease. It was frustrating that health insurance would cover the then-$5,000+ treatment if I was bitten, but not the $45 vaccine series that made "treatment" just another $15 booster.

Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
My doctor back then is the one who suggested I go to the county Health Dept. He'd have to buy a whole vial just to give me the one shot and I'd be paying for both the office visit and the other five doses that would be getting thrown out. Repeat for the 2nd and 3rd shots in the initial series.
100
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Way back when, it was only in 6-dose vials with no way to reconstitute just one dose. So the health dept had one rabies appointment a week and did everyone in the same time slot to minimize costs and wasted doses. New animal control hires, travelers, etc. Don't know if that is still the case.
000
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
... remembering way back when, I paid $15 each for the 3 shots in the initial preventative series. Fast-forward to the mid-2000s and the single booster was now $500+. Still beats 20-30k for the post-exposure treatment. Definitely beats dying from rabies, or barely surviving w/neuro complications.

When the development is chased offshore, the US won't have as much control over its availability and potential profits. Plus missing out on the spending associated with medical tourism by the lucky ones who can go outside the US for treatment.

Am hearing more rolling thunder this morning than the last few years combined. Yay rain in July! I can't stress enough how frickin' surreal the rarity of Sound storms is to someone who grew up in the US South or Midwest. It's like, do you even wx, bro? #homesick #wawx

Thank you for the alert posts. I'll admit if I see that something is nearby I'll do more scanning and be a bit more diligent about it than my usual "grab binocs and walk over" skim :)

Has been moving eastish across the shipping lanes towards the mainland in addition to continuing north towards Pt Robinson. This was taken at 17:20 and that's the Marine Preserve on Maury in the background.

17:20 - Past Gold Beach now, heading towards Pt Robinson, and has moved even more towards the mainland side of lower East Passage.

He's moving pretty quickly. Already almost past Gold Beach and heading toward Pt Robinson. He's moved from the Maury side to more in the middle of the shipping channels. There is a small boat following him, so find the boat and look ahead.

Taken at 16:49, cell phone camera handheld to eyepiece of scope
Photograph with the top third or so being a couple of houses on the shore of the water, a small boat tied up at the dock of one of them, and calm water in the lower two thirds. The back and dorsal fin of an orca can be seen at the surface in the lower right hand corner. The picture is fairly poor quality, lack of sharp focus and misty-ish due to lighting issues

16:50 - Solo orca heading north/east up lower East Passage, on the Maury side, just passed the north end of Shore Acres, heading toward Gold Beach. It doesn't look like he's swimming fast but he is making good time

18:14 - Was scanning for birds and OMG BLOW!!! it just fluked and dove, facing southish after circling while blowing. Lower East Passage, midchannel, looks to be on a line between Shore Acores on Maury and Dash Point on the mainland.

Few things as cutely silly as a clumsy fledgling jumping and climbing around a birdbath in pursuit of a moth. Junior hasn't figured out standing water: he lifts one foot, shakes it off, puts it back down in the water and lifts the other and shakes. Then sees moth go by and tries again to catch it.
000
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
13:12 - It's moved further southwest along Maury and has just fluked down off Shore Acres, roughly where the red circle is
010
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 05/07/2026
FWIW, the flip back to north/east was 10-15 minutes after the tide changed. Until then he'd spent the last few hours swimming into a retreating tide, then he switched to swim into the incoming tide.

Both whale watch boats turned around and are now creeping north/east back towards Pt Robinson. I've not seen a blow or other sign since previous report. Maybe the humpback flipped directions, or maybe the boats are now following a second one behind it that flipped north.
120
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 04/07/2026
Surfaced again, further south than before, still close in to Maury, both WW boats following
120
Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 04/07/2026
Up further south than before, but dove and fluked facing north so it might be feeding (or flipping), in between EC and the short. Meanwhile Swiftsure (another WW boat) has come up. So if you're watching from afar, look for the two big whale watch boats and the red one is currently closer

Humpback - probably this same one - headed south/west down lower East Passage, off Maury Marine Preserve between Pt Robinson and Gold Beach. Followed by Emerald Clipper. Very close to Maury shoreline

17:54 - Still traveling northeast, in front of Gold Beach, headed up East Passage towards Pt Robinson. It is very close in to Maury and viewing from the mainland side across the passage required binocs just to see the sunlit blow. No nearby boats for landmarks, sorry.

Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 04/07/2026
Just now surfaced again, it's picked up a tad more speed, about 2/3rds the way to Gold Beach now. Still very close to Maury shore.

Entropy Generator @egen.bsky.social · 04/07/2026
Humpback as of about five minutes ago was slowly north/eastbound up the lower East Passage, close in to Maury Island, about 1/4 the way between Shore Acres and Gold Beach.
