There's probably going to have to be another big recession to kill inflation. That's what happened in the early 80s. The Fed jacked up rates, causing unemployment in 1982 to reach double digits. But inflation was largely tamed throughout the 80s and the 90s.

Populist politicians easily blame the “other” for all their country’s problems, but once elected when can’t deliver they will blame others instead of themselves. So German people, just look at America’s current situation and learn lessons from us.

As someone who’s watching from America, I may understand the reason why the mainstream parties in Germany are polling poorly, but at the same time German voters should look across the Atlantic in my own country and see for themselves what happens when you vote in the populists.

I knew why Biden was underwater as far as polling and that with his age and voter sentiment on the cost of living it was going to an uphill battle for him politically. I saw that myself with folks I knew saying how much things were better under Trump.

I knew that wasn’t going to happen. But they believed that at the time and voted the way they did. And today, the sense of disappointment, disillusionment and frustration has grown because those promises weren’t fulfilled.

I think the reason for the current anger under Trump is he made the cost of living as a major campaign issue two years ago. I remember in ‘23 and ‘24 guys I knew commenting about how much things were affordable and stable when Trump was first in office prior to 2020.

This whole transphobia going on, are there parallels here to LGTQ rights that I remember hearing about 20 years ago? As someone who was in the military 20 years ago, I remember DADT in place and the "gay phobia" that a lot of people had. IDK, it feels like trans rights similar mid 2000s gay rights.

That would have been much easier to do had Mitch McConnell made the decision to vote to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial. That likely would have added more Republican votes and Trump's political career could have been finished and likely had more legs for prosecution.
