Happy Birthday to fellow Aquarian, Abraham Lincoln! Here is an excerpt from Heather Cox Richardson’s newsletter this morning with a VERY timely warning to all of us living now. I hope we have the wisdom to heed it.

The idea of a small government that serves the needs of a few wealthy people, Lincoln warned in his era, is “the same old serpent that says you work and I eat, you toil and I will enjoy the fruits of it. Turn in whatever way you will—whether it come from the mouth of a King, an excuse for enslaving the people of his country, or from the mouth of men of one race as a reason for enslaving the men of another race, it is all the same old serpent.”

From Heather Cox Richardson 1/8 newsletter (which I encourage everyone to read)… once again, all of our fears for a second Trump term are coming true and he hasn’t even taken office. Can someone please explain to me why the fuck men would have any say in our healthcare decisions?

And MAGA Republicans have proposed a bill to impose a national abortion ban, along with a bill urging Congress to support a consortium of antiabortion doctors for women because, the bill says, “health care should emphasize the whole woman, including her physical, mental, and spiritual wellness,” and “health care for women should also address the needs of men, families, and communities.”

That is so insultingly dismissive and disgusting. How does a culture get over genocide? Jewish people (generally) aren’t told to get over the Holocaust! Although they do sadly have to deal with the deniers. I find these definitions from How to Be an Antiracist so enlightening and pertinent.

In Heather Cox Richardson’s newsletter, I’m struck by two things. One is that the right wing leader, elected by men upset that women are demanding equality, attempted a coup and failed. And two, that people turned to BlueSky instead of X because it proved to be faster and more relavent for info!!

For the rest of the world, though, South Koreans' immediate and aggressive response to a man trying to take away their democratic rights is an inspiration. Among other things, it illustrates that for all the claims that autocracy can react to events more quickly than democracy can, in fact autocrats are brittle. It is democracy that is determined and resilient.

The events in Seoul also cemented the shift in social media from X to Bluesky, where news was breaking faster than anywhere else, in a way that echoed what Twitter used to be. Since Twitter was a key site of democratic organizing until Elon Musk bought it and renamed it X, that shift is significant.

1st, Biden took the blame for Trump’s failed econ. policies which hurt Harris. Now Trump is already getting credit for Biden’s successful economy even though he hasn’t even taken office. Next, Trump will destroy the economy again, leaving another hole for Dems to dig out of. Rinse and repeat forever
