The Dems are getting outspent by more than 9-to-1 in the Georgia and Florida gov races. And it ain't much better in Texas.

The fiscal year is over. The dying Social, Behavioral, and Economic division of NSF ended up awarding 90 total grants this year, as opposed to ~700-800 in recent past years. Source: grantwitness.org/nsf/analyses...
The graph shows the cumulative number of awards made by month across this fiscal year, as compared to the last 6 fiscal years. The line for this year is total flat until June, but then finally gets up to 91 by October. In prior years the increase starts building earlier and ends on average in the 700-800 range (with variability, last year was only between 400-500).

My team at the NVA Lab has produced a new dashboard for exploring our data on US protests from Jan 2025-May 2026. This snapshot shows the 61k+ protest events (>14.6M+ recorded participants) active in the US since Trump's second inauguration. Link to dashboard in thread.
A platform displaying the data on US protests from the Crowd Counting Consortium. It includes a map of the US with counts of protest events in circular form overlaying the protests' locations. It also includes weekly tallies of protest events and participations, top protest issues, and various filters allowing users to explore events by location, issue, date, political valence, etc. The top of the image shows a total of 61,782 protests with 14,684,201 participants across 55 US states and territories from January 20, 2025 to May 31, 2026.

"2026 is shaping up to be a banner year" in U.S. political advertising, per @efranklinfowler.bsky.social. Why? 👉 Record TV airings in House & Gov races 👉 Rise of digital ads has not slowed TV ads 👉 Volume of federal TV ads in 2026 congressional contests nearly 2x what it was in 2012

Almost $2B in 2025-2026 midterm spending so far. Although AI use in ads is very challenging to track because the federal govt and many states do not require disclosure, we have identified at least $20M in ads that have confirmed AI use. This is surely an undercount, but it’s a start. More below ⬇️

We have *never* before seen consumer sentiment this low.
Line chart titled "Consumer Sentiment just fell to a (new) all-time low" showing the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index from 1952 to May 2026. The index plummeted to 44.8 in May 2026, the lowest reading in the survey's 74-year history, falling sharply from 74.0 in December 2024. This marks three consecutive months of decline and drops below all previous crisis lows, including the June 2022 inflation surge low of 50.0 and the April 2020 pandemic low of 71.8, signaling an unprecedented collapse in consumer confidence.

APSA Statement on the Dismissal of the National Science Board
The American Political Science Association (APSA) condemns the Trump Administration’s recent dismissal of all 22 members of the National Science Board (NSB), the independent advisory and oversight body for the National Science Foundation (NSF). This abrupt decision was carried out without any initial justification and may violate the National Science Foundation Act of 1950, the statute that established both NSF and the National Science Board.

Bipartisan-cited science is rare, unevenly distributed, and disproportionately influential
Alexander C. Furnas https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8006-7798 and Dashun Wang

Abstract
This study offers a systematic analysis of scientific papers cited in both Republican and Democratic policy documents. Using data from Overton and Dimensions, we examine congressional reports, hearings, and think tank publications. We find that bipartisan citations, while rare, highlight papers of exceptional scientific influence. Policy documents citing these papers also receive more citations, amplifying their policy impact. Yet, bipartisan-cited science is unevenly distributed—concentrated in monetary policy and healthcare, but notably absent in climate, inequality, and race and gender. These results show that bipartisan engagement, though limited, marks a uniquely influential core of science in both research and policy.
