no, not beg buttons - Toronto already uses ATC-compatible traffic controllers and a SCOOT-based signal system, and have both permanent and pilot program tech to do full passive, intelligent intersections, we just don't

we should also have pedestrian detection, but yes, the long pedestrian crossing times are a result of massive, too-wide roads that take far too long to cross to begin with because they decided to keep three+ lanes of traffic in each direction from the get-go, it all stems from car culture

end of the day transit still waiting at the lights
110
edwardrow @edwardrow.com · 28/09/2026
this is just if-transit-present reorder car phase, not if-transit-approach skip and reorder car phase. The transit is still waiting (not prioritized) because the whole system is based on a car-timed cycle instead of adaptive to the present conditions

this is not real transit signal priority

it won't go into the void though, there are innumerable right wing orgs/outlets ready to be the exclusive access voice to the white house, which just bolsters those voices - because despite everything, people ~are paying attention, and he's the most powerful person on the planet

King headed west was really bad last night too, most of the reason seemed to be very slow general speed, stopping for lights, stopping at intersections despite a green light, the actual pickup/drop off stops themselves, vehicles illegally driving through king /stopping at lights/being confused

it’s odd because she literally only registered two days ago so it doesn’t really feel like she had someone lined up, but I can imagine she has already spoken to someone (probably the trustee?) now

Basically leaving it up in the air makes people feel as though the incumbent still plans to run, kills momentum for new entrants - while at the same time if you don’t actually plan to run and you want to endorse the last minute, you can have someone file late that you endorse, a shoe in either way
101
edwardrow @edwardrow.com · 17/08/2026
As in she normally doesn’t register until very late ?
100
edwardrow @edwardrow.com · 17/08/2026
yeah that’s kind of what I was thinking some last minute registration and endorse situation

Thread about the Ontario bike lane ruling, based on @edwardrow.com on X When all the evidence shows that more car lanes don't help congestion, and the gov's own reports show that removing bike lanes no won't help congestion, the judge ignored that and goes off his own vibes as "common sense” (1/6)
A Court of Appeal for Ontario
[59] The question, then, is this: is there a rational connection between the purpose of reducing traffic congestion and the decision to increase the number of lanes for motor vehicles by removing
bicycle lanes? The respondents were required to establish that there was no such connection. The appellants were not required to establish that the legislation will prove effective in reducing traffic congestion.
[60]
Common sense provides the answer here: increasing the number of lanes available for motor vehicles must, at least to some extent, and for some period of time, be capable of contributing to reducing traffic congestion. The legislation is therefore rational.
Assumptions grounded in everyday experience and common sense need not be established empirically: Gosselin v. Québec (Attorney General), 2002 SCC 84, [2002] 4 S.C.R. 429, at para. 56.
[61] The application judge acknowledged that "increasing the number of lanes available to motor vehicles may allow more cars to travel on a road" and that the respondents' expert "recognized the
possibility of a short-term benefit" from the removal of the bicycle lanes. But instead of accepting that a rational connection had been established and leaving the policy debate about the efficacy of the law to the political process, he went on to consider the expert's predictions of what would happen to motor vehicle traffic "over

They have far more bleed tolerance, and there ease is risked by federal backing - you’re saying rents are falling - which is somewhat true of a certain kind - but these buildings have been open for years, their rents have only increased, or stayed the same and instead they offer perks and incentives

edwardrow @edwardrow.com · 08/08/2026
I’m not ignoring anything I am looking at what they are saying, what they are doing - and watching the buildings - I am pro-housing, super pro housing - I want them to get rid of the antiquated zoning rules as soon as possible, however - you (tiny dev/owner) and these corps work at different levels

edwardrow @edwardrow.com · 08/08/2026
instead they want only to do incentives (couple months free rent, perks, etc etc) - this one got $357 million the government and is similarly empty - wont lower rents, they offer incentives triconliving.com/apartment/ma...

oh this has been like this for more than two years! it’s never been less than 10% empty since I’ve been watching it - infact it’s gotten slightly more empty - but this is just one building and one example, but they very explicitly dont want to lower rents - www.theglobeandmail.com/real-estate/...

rental buildings aren’t included in vacant home tax though because it’s not based on individual units it’s based on properties - so purpose built rental buildings aren’t caught in it (where a lot of this money is going) - this is ~more than 10% empty, as an example - www.elmledbury.ca/suites

acting like this is some future state is strange - what the Israeli ministers are calling for is settlements, but this is the same thing that the trump admin and Kushner have been pushing - Netanyahu has already claimed 70% of the territory - but in practice, they control it all

they've already de facto seized, and completely obliterated gaza - they've made it unliveable in any understood sense, there is no food production or water that isn't trickled in. West bank is more of the same escalation they've been taking for decades, normalized, systemic occupation as annexation
