We mourn the passing of the 11th dean of the College of Education, P. David Pearson. He was a decorated researcher in the field of literacy. He was named a member of the National Academy of Education in 2003, an AERA Fellow in 2009, and this year, elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

As an undergrad, Katie Davenport couldn’t get enough of her Principles in Teaching Literature to Children and Youth course. She frequently emailed instructor Karla Möller with ideas and questions. Now a Ph.D. student, Katie is still close with Möller, and she is teaching the course that shaped her.
