Been playing with 'Space Bunny Alpha' the last few days. Definitely MiniMax IMHO, and if it is, a significant step forward for a model that had fallen quite a bit far behind, although it still is really unsure of itself.

One thing AI labs will soon need to figure out is how to keep models from overthinking as they become more intelligent. Anecdotally, there are a lot of reports out there among tinkerers and coders alike that frontier models struggle to create something out of whole cloth, but ace finding stuff. 1/2

I don’t think Anthropic avoiding the whole rogue agent crisis is luck. I think it has to do with Claude’s training. People have criticized Anthropic’s focus on “model welfare.” Yeah maybe it doesn’t have feelings but from the start treating an LLM with respect has always resulted in better output.

Hong was by far the worst DSA-backed candidate this cycle. After the Thanksgiving gaffe - which was about the worst possible answer you could give - it was obvious she'd lose, or at a minimum make it way too close. You cannot say these things, and DSA needs to do better in vetting folks.

This map illustrates pretty well how mountain ranges seemingly "block" quake shaking - a 7.6 quake should have a much larger area of shaking than this. Most of the worst of the shaking was WEST of the epicenter close to the Pacific lowlands.

People calling this a discount: it's not. It's Sonnet taking the place of Haiku. Haiku 4.5 was released in OCTOBER 2025. I don't think they have ANY plan to update Haiku at all, which is why I've started to remove it from my own agent because the capability difference is now massive.

That sounds about right to me. Add in the time spent by companies instituting these banners as well. The solution was to get rid of cookies altogether, most of these banners really are window dressing and often aren't configured correctly to REALLY block cookies (it's not as easy as you think).

People REALLY don't understand what AI has done for meteorology and climatology. We're talking 10-20% improvements in forecasting in a matter of just a few years. People don't know how hard it's been to get more accurate forecasts out of mathematical models - we really were reaching the limits.

Weather nut here: this is inaccurate. Structurally, there is no difference in how this operates versus ChatGPT - it is doing the same things, just not with words. It's STILL predicting. AI has completely transformed weather forecasting, and has resulted in an ACTUAL measureable improvements.
