My question was ruled out of order, presumably due to CP 50-21, which forbids us from talking about pricing. Well how are we supposed to talk about the cost impact of a proposal to allow a product manufactured by a single manufacturer without talking about that price? www.iccsafe.org/wp-content/u...

The National Zoning Atlas team is out with a blockbuster paper identifying major flaws with the Wharton Index, which has historically been the tool used by economists to make claims about zoning (e.g. Glaeser & Gyourko's 2002 paper on zoning & affordability, with >1200 citations, is based on it...)

An existing 100% tariff and 2027 Commerce Department restrictions on connected vehicles from China make it impractical to import Chinese vehicles today. A Senate bill would codify that exclusion.

Karen Bass reelection update: the mayor has come out as anti-taco stand. In Los Angeles.
“I do not believe that you should have a food vendor in front of a restaurant, period,” Bass shot back, adding that she wanted them off the streets completely and in brick-and-mortar locations. Their presence near restaurants “discourages people from going in, just like you shouldn’t have encampments in front of restaurants or in front of schools. You just should not do that.”

Spending time in France and Switzerland, it’s clear that the “missing middle” in North America isn’t townhouses and duplexes. It’s mid-rises. Especially mid-rise neighbourhoods. Our denser urban fabric (Montreal, Chicago, etc.) is still mostly 2-3 storeys, not 4-8 like is so common here.

This is REALLY important. The main thing that makes it hard to achieve integrated nature/green in cities ISN’T the density of buildings or the density of people — it's the density of CARS. And the better designed your density of people and buildings is, the fewer cars you need or want. #UrbanTruth

(4/5) Unlike townhomes, which have a stairwell in each unit, stacked flats have a single central stair. This means less stairs to get around your home, in addition to the ground-floor accessible units. 👩‍🦽👨‍🦯

Ok ok, but hear me out - what if that engine instead of it being powered by gas can instead be powered by a fixed direct line of electricity (maybe by overhead wires). I’m presuming it would save tons of money in the long run, and make the bus even start up and slow down even faster!

The median single-family detached house in Los Angeles is over $940,000. The median condo? $650,000. That’s nearly $300,000 less, so why aren’t we building them? Builders have walked away because a broken process made condos too risky to be worth it. AB 1903 (Wicks) is the fix.
