I think one of the positive opportunities of LLMs and automation is to rely more on patterns and guidance than strict building blocks.

This is a lot easier to miss because we often don’t notice who’s *not* there. This doesn’t just happen in physical spaces, the amount of people who don’t have profiles or have to stay private deprives us all of a lot contributions.

Would love to have been in the Apple meeting where it was agreed the best thing would be for Xcode 27 to break fit for everyone until we accept the license agreement.

Also, why is this basically written up as "quirky crowd make an embarrassing mistake" and not "violent racists form mob because Asian people use hotel"?

More Palestinians have been killed (1,300) since the so-called ceasefire began in Gaza on 10th October 2025 than Israelis were killed on 7th October 2023 - including ten times as many children (300!) as were killed on 10/7. This is what a 'ceasefire' looks like for Palestinians.

In an honest and just approach to AI, services like Wikimedia and the Internet Archive would be drowning in funding. Instead we have Anthropic and Amazon shredding books.

Founder of collapsed Chinese property giant Evergrande sentenced to life in prison
Hui's sentencing marks a key moment in the fallout from Evergrande's collapse, which shook China's property sector.

Second, thinking in shearing layers patterns are the furniture. People use and change them around the most. Components and tokens are more like fixtures and plumbing. People notice issue occasionally but don’t change them day to day.

First, we think designers, engineers, and agents should come to the system for help with solutions. And if there is a fully formed solution like a pattern they should see and consider that first.

In the Spirii UI design systems docs we’re inverting the usual order. Instead of following the order of composition from the foundations starting with tokens and building up to components and patterns we’re starting with patterns. The reasoning is twofold..

I do miss the optimism of the 90s I grew up in, but it’s tempered with the knowledge that this misplaced optimism got us into this mess

As I get old it starts to become clear that we romanticise the past mainly because only the good parts of it tend to survive. Older buildings are nicer? We knocked down the shit ones. Music was better back then? You never hear the bad stuff. Nostalgia works through a filter.

Yeah LinkedIn is clearly in a situation where their metrics are driving a worse experience. I would bet money that any fixes to their shitty notification badge tank engagement so it stays broken.

I think I saw an open STE fork once but looking now doesn’t look to be widely used. Sorry, I guess I was being overly optimistic. 😬 Still great to see tools like this being used for docs though.

It was inevitable, wasn't it🙄 Of course the Telegraph would run with something like this👇 So let's remove some of the rose-tinted spectacles and also look at some of that data comparing 1976 with modern heat waves Because the 1976 nostalgia porn is wearing a bit thin at this stage 🧵1/23
Telegraph headiline:

"Heatwave hysterics wouldn't have lasted a day in 1976", overlaid with a bold “MONK DEBUNKED” stamp.

Interesting that Anthropic seem to be shifting their model names from poetry to… fictional tales? So curious to understand the reasoning behind this, because… deviation from truth would be something I would not be wanting to evoke at this point.

Treating any communication platform that algorithmically selects which content to put in front of a user as a publisher, and legally responsible for that content, is the screamingly obvious solution that will deeply upset maybe seven companies and make life considerably better.
