Adios from the public health trenches, where sometimes my best coping strategy is a little laugh— an ounce of prevention if you will 😉 As spotted on campus today, “what doesn’t kill you, mutates and tries again” So mask up, vax up, wash your hands & don’t give evolution extra material 😂 G’night🌙✨
Photo of a square sign on an office wall that reads “What doesn’t kill you, mutates and tries again”. The text is arranged in a circle, and in the center of the circle are drawings of a variety of multicolored pathogens.

The black-and-white photograph depicts an old, dilapidated market stall with a wall-mounted sink and exposed pipes, surrounded by tiled and concrete walls. The lighting is dramatic, with strong shadows cast by a light source in the upper left, creating a stark contrast between light and dark areas. The composition emphasizes the textures of the materials and the geometric lines formed by the tiles, pipes, and shadows. The overall mood is raw and minimalist, conveying a sense of abandonment or simple uselessness.

A black-and-white photograph captures a rainy urban street at night, with wet pavement reflecting the glow of streetlights. The composition uses leading lines from the sidewalk and lampposts to draw the viewer’s eye into the depth of the scene, creating a moody, cinematic atmosphere.

Wet Walks, Edinburgh, August 2023 Once placed stones, will carry us wherever we want #AlphabetChallenge #WeekWForWater #PaintByWords #cobblestones #FineArt #PhotographersofBluesky #blackandwhitephotography #ClassicMono #UrbanGaze #EastCoastKin #ECK
The image captures a low-angle, black-and-white shot of a person mid-stride on a textured cobblestone street, emphasizing the contrast between the smooth soles of their white sneakers and the rough, weathered stones. The composition uses diagonal lines and a sense of movement, with the person’s legs cropped to focus on the interaction between footwear and surface, evoking a candid, urban moment.

“Redirecting light to shape the scene” is this week’s challenge from @rjrock.bsky.social using his original photo. And what a fantastic one it is! Details of my darktable editing in the ALT as usual! Cheers! #Sculpt #PostProcess #EastCoastKin #ECK #blackandwhitephotography #Reflections
I haven’t been here in a while, but this photo immediately captivated me. The diagonal light patterns are amazing. All I had to do was slightly reduce the blacks and emphasize the highlights. So I pushed the blacks slider all the way to the right. I adjusted the highlights curve just enough to keep details visible, with a subtle increase in contrast. And the wide white frame makes the light flow even further! Et voilà!

A monochrome urban scene captures the underside of a bridge with strong geometric lines, deep shadows, and reflections in a shallow puddle, creating a stark contrast between the industrial structure and the natural rocks below. The composition uses the bridge’s beams to lead the eye toward a lone bicycle, adding a subtle human element.

A Glass Canvas, Hamburg, June 2022 #AlphabetChallenge #WeekRForReflections #WallsOnWednesday #WindowsOnWednesday #WackyWednesdayArt #blackandwhitephotography #ClassicMono #EastCoastKin #WindowsOnWednesday #FineArt #PhotographersofBluesky
A black-and-white photo capturing urban reflections on glass panels, featuring silhouettes of people, towering buildings, and a layered composition of light and shadow. The image plays with transparency, symmetry, and the interplay of architectural elements, creating a sense of depth and abstraction. The high-contrast monochrome palette emphasizes textures and shapes, while the reflections distort reality, inviting the viewer to explore the interplay between the real and the mirrored cityscape.
