Lovely images from our Week of Sound opening concert last month. 900 Voices is a sound art installation by Zoë Irvine, Jules Rawlinson & Lindsay Perth. The City Sings by Dee Isaacs was performed by Stockbridge & New Town Community Orchestra with Music in the Community. 📸 Sally Jubb Photography
The Sculpture Court, beautifully lit. At one end is an orchestra; standing along the balcony on three sides of the room, is a choir. The conductor's arms are raised.Several people lean down to place glowing lanterns on the floor of the Sculpture Court. The lanterns are decorated with images of Edinburgh.
A listener leans in towards a loudspeaker on a pedestal, listening intently.

The book 'Building Modern Scotland' on a shop bookshelf, between other books. The cover shows the title, the subtitle ('A social and architectural history of the new towns, 1947-1997') and the authors' names. The image shows some new town housing. A group of boys is gathered with their bikes. One is mending a flat tyre. A smaller boy watches on, perhaps wanting to be part of the group.

Third year BA (Hons) Textiles students have been experimenting with biomaterials, growing mycelium, (fungus root), which has the potential for creating plastic-free, compostable fabrics. They've tested its potential for items from bra padding to wall tiles, plant holders to decorative lace.
Four samples of fabric with grey/white mycelium growing through. Some have used stencils in the shapes of leaves and petals, so that the stencilled shapes show grey on a white background.
A plant pot holder, containing a spider plant, leaves spilling over the edge. Three knotted cords in gold and off-white lead upwards. The base is a textured white/off white, a light, hardened surface made of mycelium which has grown through the macrame base.
Several pots, each with samples of mycelium growth. One is on a red net, like a pot scrubber; others show very three dimensional, textured growth.
Five samples of fabric with embroidery. Grey/white patches show where the mycelium has grown through the fabric.

A white plinth with black scrawled writing on the sides. On top is a sculptural ribbon of curled metal.Several pieces of artwork on a white wall, one on two shelves, some mounted directly to the wall. They look quite abstract, but on closer inspection appear to be close-up photographs of various objects, primarily jewellery. Two pieces of abstract artwork in black, white and grey, pinned over a corner, so that they both curve.Three ceramic shapes with letters on them, each with a hand coming out of the top, in a different position - the hands look to be made of white wax.
