So you didn't mean a word of what you said when you claimed to support trans people? You could make the shop pay a "goodwill levy" for trans people? Say %200 of profits?

Just re-read Judgement on Gotham (it came out in 91) and was instantly transported back to that Christmas Day. My poor mum would have had to have braved Forbidden Planet to get it. The story basically serves to ask the question 'What cool stuff can get Bisley to draw?' Anderson looks different.
From 1991's Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgment on Gotham. A frame of Judge Anderson with wild red/ginger hair saying 'SOMEDBODY LOOK'N FOR ME?'. Anderson looks more like Ania Magliano here, rather than the more common 'Debbie Harry but taller' take. Ania Magliano was born in 1998 btw, so no way was this deliberate.

Uhm Google, I'm pretty sure that's the wrong image for @blackbrighttheatre.bsky.social's excellent show The Hunger (returning to the @edfringe.bsky.social this year.) Unless Paddington is involved somehow and I missed it. He is a horror icon, after all.
Snipped image of a google search for the excellent Black Bright Theatre's show, The Hunger. The Starburst Magazine link has, thanks to Google's unique search system, the wrong image attached. Instead of a woman toting a shotgun (seriously, see this play), we have an image of Paddington bear.

Oh dear...
Review from Starburst Magazine .com by Ed Fortune. Features Doherty looking demonic as the lead image. 3 Stars. Review reads

One-man shows can be tricky, as it’s always a balance between performance and storytelling. Juggling genres is even harder, and Andrew Doherty’s latest show, Gay Witch Sex Cult, tries jolly hard to pull off a campy horror parody.

The plot behind Gay Witch Sex Cult is a sort of 1970s-style spooky shaggy dog story that tends to delight STARBURST readers. Andrew Doherty embraces the role of an incredibly shallow real estate agent who falls in love with the wrong man and gets themselves in a spot of bother when he’s sent to check out a potential sale on a decidedly cursed Norfolk island.

This is a very silly show, in both premise and execution, and it’s a delight to watch Doherty fling themselves across the stage with gay abandon. Our intrepid storyteller spins a tale of talking creatures, weird plants, insane locals and, of course, a gay witch sex cult. Doherty’s character is placed in such horrible situations that in any other story, you’d feel a pang of sympathy at times for them, but Doherty has created a truly unlikeable and funny central character. Calling the lead shallow is an understatement.

And though this is played for laughs, that’s the main issue with the show; the main lead isn’t so much one-dimensional as entirely lacking; fortunately, Doherty plays this for laughs as hard as he can. Doherty turns what should be a creepy little Hammer Horror-style short into something truly dumb and rather fun to watch. The narrative does rely heavily on everyone being cartoonishly daft, but this a silly, spooky fun for grown-ups and utterly brilliant for anyone with a sense of humour that leans toward the queer.

Only ever so slightly worried about seeing this show... #EdFringe
Andrew Doherty: Reviewers Welcome... TO DIE!
Cut and Paste from the Edinburgh Fringe website. Can I just say Andrew looks lovely here. Show blurb is as follows.
When know-nothing, home-owning reviewer Felix Chatelier is invited to be a special guest at a new fringe festival, he is thrilled. But when he becomes embroiled with creepy townsfolk and horrific twists he must fight for his life and more importantly, his reputation, as he desperately seeks to answer the question 'Why oh why did I only give Andrew Doherty three stars?' Reviewers welcome at their peril.

Being British and remotely interested in politics means dealing with a constant barrage of wild mis-information. Anything remotely people focused and 'left' is immediately attacked.
Chart explaining common misconceptions about the Green Party (of England and Wales). This misinformation is wild; For example the false claim that the party wants 'end meat and diary' is actually 'support better farming standards', Open borders is actually 'manage migration' etc.

Adding this picture of a Greggs' Sausage Roll to this thread. It adds nothing to this musing on a cyclical nature of comedy and news revue shows, but is another thing that Americans don't seem to understand. Also Greggs is the official sponsor of UK SNL, which is a genius move IMHO.

If the Greens win Gorton/Denton, does that mean we can put Matt Goodwin in a Wicker Man? Pretty sure he fits the criteria as set out in that 1973 documentary I saw about The Wicker Man.
Still from the 1973 movie The Wicker Man. Actor Edward Woodward plays Officer Howie. In this picture, the officer is trapped in a wicker cage, pleading to be released. Fun fact; when they filmed this their was a goat in the cage above, and it urinated on the Edward Woodward during filming.

Call me over-cautious, but the UK Gov seems very keen to sell data to third-party groups for profit. Given that the likes of Wes Streeting is chummy with authoritarian data oligarch Peter Thiel, the ID card thing feels like a data grab. We won't get ID cards, but we will lose personal data anyway.
Post from David Allen Green, which says 'Bless those who think the Home Office can succesfully carry out a huge IT procurement exercise for digital ID cards for implementation before the next general election.'

Green has closed retweets to reduce noise, but welcomes people contacting him on this platform to discuss.

A reminder that JK Rowling's Edinburgh home hosts a digusting, stinky, laylandi bush. The bulk of the cost of trimming is borne by the public purse. It takes days to do, causing traffic chaos. It should have been completely removed years ago, but the billionaire sociopath gets special treatment.
Tailbacks of traffic being caused by the current ongoing work. SCOTS parents have been left fuming after queues of traffic and delays left their children late for school - due to J.K. Rowling's hedge being trimmed. The Harry Potter author has had the road adjacent to her 17th century home in Barnton, Edinburgh restricted this week whilst work is carried out on her towering Leylandii hedge. The 58-year-old billionaire has had four-way temporary traffic lights installed outside her £2.2m home with sections of the road closed to allow for a cherry picker to work on the shrubbery. Ongoing work to the 30-foot bushes this morning (WED) is the third day of arborists working at the home in the plush area of the capital, with works expected until the end of the week.

The London Lovecraft Festival returns for it's 5th year at the Drayton Arms, during the 16th and 17th of February. Full story via @starburst.bsky.social www.starburstmagazine.com/london-lovec...
Pink Tentacles on a Black Background. Tentacles grab a microphone. Title reads The Fifth London Lovecraft Festival.

Event Details.
With the horrors of a cold, damp, dark and stormy January fading, we march into February prepared to face fresh monstrous horrors, in the form of the returning London Lovecraft Festival.

Taking over the Drayton Arms Theatre in South Kensington on the 16th and 17th of February, this is the fifth outing for what has become a favourite event amongst fans of all things Lovecraft and theatre. Starburst has attended previous iterations of the festival and had a fantastic, mind-scrambling time, immersing ourselves in the entertainment on offer.

For 2025, the Festival launches at 2pm on the afternoon of Sunday, February 16th, with the interactive ‘Painting Pickman’s Model’. Director Leo Doulton, who was an Associate Director of immersive horror piece, The Key of Dreams, will lead attendees through a process of creating art, whilst discussing what makes a monster, and, we are promised, other topics that will be of interest to the audience. Described as ‘A Life Drawing Class with a difference’, we’d expect participants to be captivated by the tale Doulton will undoubtedly weave.

Rowling has never truly engaged with wider fandom, only ever trading in her own brand, and has never been a source of knowledge for SF & Fantasy beyond her own work. Her ignorance knows no bounds. And yes, winners at the 2024 Worldcon Ceremony did name check Gaiman, and not in a nice way.
Twitter post from Robert Galbraith/ JKR, claiming that the SF community (which she calle the literary crowd) have been silent on Gaiman. A post above this points out that they've been quite vocal in their condemnation of Neil Gaiman, and she wouldn't know.

TLDR: JK Rowling took her head out of the trough of mind-rotting substances today to post on twitter and talk utter bum water. Again.
