A decent 40 mins from the Ham Common view point this evening with a WT Eagle stealing prey off a Marsh Harrier out on the gull islands, 2 Marsh Harrier floating about the whole time and 1 Osprey hunting between Shipstal and Rockley. Not bad for an ‘urban’ site! @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

This week's forecast? HOT. 🥵 When temperatures soar, a shallow dish of water can be a lifeline for birds, hedgehogs, bees and other garden visitors. Remember to replace it with fresh water daily, and if you can, add a few pebbles so smaller creatures have somewhere safe to land and drink.

Great seabird and puffin cruise last week with @harbourbirds.bsky.social I dipped on the pomerine skuas but had great views of kittiwakes, puffins and fulmars. Even got to wave to Sandbanks partygoers and learned which is Harry Redknapp’s new house whilst being serenaded with music from the quay 🙏

I’m sad to hear the news that the wonderful Jane Goodall is no longer in the world. Her work with chimpanzees at Gombe in Tanzania taught us to look at other apes - and ourselves - differently. I was privileged to meet her later in life and tell her what an inspiration she was to me.
