@Techaltar I hope it drives more innovation with foldables, I like interesting tech again. I wonder if it'll make them more mainstream and kill my supply of really cheap used ones though.

Can I urge you to seek out "New Zealand Spy"? It is the most charming comedy I've seen in a good while. www.imdb.com/title/tt4232...

@roastinghouse oh yeah, I think it's low enough to not really count and to calculate you'd have to know exactly what the rider had eaten etc but it's a fun fact

@roastinghouse one of my favourite facts are that electric bikes are lower carbon that acoustic bikes. The food you feed the person is higher carbon than the electricity you put in the battery.

Things To Do With Potatoes Throw a potato on the ground behind a stranger, then say "Excuse me, you've dropped your potato!". If they deny ownership, pull another potato from your pocket, saying "Well it's definitely not my one". Hide a potato in a pair of shoes at a bowling alley.

@Edent It is interesting the number of times we've been shown a demo of some new system booking a table automatically. I guess that's just something the people coming up with the demos get their PAs to do for them and assume us peasants must also want that?

@Edent I actually think it's fine. I'm not sure people understand that wildfires don't just magically start and that they're responsible to not start them. This does kinda feel like an emergency...

@Techaltar I was surprised by this too, it is a good reminder. I'm also never sure if it's just my bit of the fediverse and I could somehow break out of it.

@Edent I hadn't realised that the Google Find My stuff was much more private that Tile until I clicked through and read the comments on your review. The UGREEN ones are £25 for 4 (!) and still have USB C charging so will give them a go (even if you can only buy them from Amazon...).

As part of 'Making Tax Digital' the UK will soon force people to use proprietary software to file certain types of tax return. If you disagree, think people should have control over their data, that HMRC alone should be in charge of HMRC's job, that you shouldn't have to pay random companies […]

It's 1998, you make a website in the copy of frontpage express that came with your computer, it's just like Word and it's very easy, you figure out how to upload it to the couple megs of web space that your ISP gives you (the instructions are on their website), you visit your site in your […]

@Edent I completely agree, I guess it's more about the person wanting confirmation that what they've done was a good idea. Weirdly I think I did get into crypto early enough. I played around with it as actual money for micro payments on the internet 10 years ago and it was kinda fun. Thankfully […]

There was another exciting aspect to our hike today. For years I believed that the Tiny Balancing Sheep breed was just a myth, as I've done so many walks and hikes through the British countryside and never seen one. But reader, I was mistaken. And I have proof.
There is no other way of describing this other than to say that it looks like a very small sheep is balancing carefully on a wooden pole.

@ericmigi.com ah yeah, my existing watchface uses Open Weather Map but I might move it over to Open Meteo to avoid the api limit. On Garmin it was just super useful to pull from an on-watch api rather than worry about getting data yourself. I think the fact that's my top priority means it's […]

@ericmigi.com Tried to test this and import my watchface from GitHub. First went to settings and logged into all the GitHub bits but the import gives me "Error: 'Exception' object has no attribute 'message'". The dev thing I'm most interested in is just a native way to get weather data.
