The last thing any city needs is more staff in the building department. They need to be streamlining permit applications by reducing requirements, especially the planning code.

Could you add a few more gables? ( jesus, don't be so cheap, hire an architect!)

I live in a dense urban neighborhood where the old folks are active and social, part of the life of the street.

My mother felt like her life was over when they took her license away at 87. She blamed all her problems on the DMV after that.

Not only have those un-walkable landscapes made it logistically impossible to walk, but they have rendered a lot of old folks physically unable to walk any distance farther than the front driveway.

I never get texts. But I did try to donate to Angie Nixon yesterday via Act Blue and I couldn't do it. Their site doesn't even allow foreign addresses! That's crazy!

My home town is Barcelona, which doesn't have a reputation as a great bike town in the European context. But it's a lot better than Vancouver.

Maybe. But materials have gotten lighter and stronger as well. It seems to be an aesthetic. People feel safer when they're more enclosed.

They were invented to keep minorities in their place. There was almost nothing that could be called 'planning' in the US before the early/mid 20th century. Did cities get better or worse after the planning profession took over? I think it's pretty clear.

They're not steel, they're stone. They turned them off because they used recycled water that wasn't considered healthy for children, but even though they posted signs that kids weren't allowed to play in them, they still did.

It's great that they got rid of the freeway. It sucks that they expended a mega-fortune replacing it with huge tunnel. That money would have been better spent providing public transit alternatives.

Excellent!! I always wear a helmet on my road bike trips out on the highways. I never wear a helmet on bikeshare bikes in town. That appears to be rational according to the info you present.
