The state senate is considering reversing a ban on seclusion rooms for children in grade three and under until 2036. The solitary rooms were used in Minnesota for decades as a last-resort response to student behavioral issues in the classroom.

Having access to a school doesn't matter if a student is afraid to walk through its door. SF3699 establishes a comprehensive set of basic rights for MN students, regardless of immigrant status. By protecting data privacy, we establish a higher standard for our state.  #MNLeg

In 2023, MN ended the use of seclusion for students in K-3—an ineffective and traumatic practice that places students alone in small rooms without the ability to leave. SF4677 would once again legalize this dangerous practice for our youngest learners. #mnleg
