@australia.theguardian.com why don't you report on the REAL private debt? $4.87 trillion — around 168% of GDP Private debt was central to both the Great Depression and GFC, yet orthodoxy and the media obsess over $1 trillion of Commonwealth pseudo-debt that supposedly needs to be reined in

Affordable medicines matter, so does access to primary and preventative care. Earlier GP visits and treatment can reduce later reliance on medication. Affordable medicines should be part of a functioning health system, not the joke that passes for one when people still struggle to access basic care.

I recently gave evidence to a House committee on critical minerals and social licence. My central question was simple: if these resources are genuinely strategic, why assume private and foreign ownership when the Commonwealth can retain public ownership and strategic control? youtu.be/6dgoj0q4WGc

We need to get rid of the regressive GST, which would lower the cost of living and simplify SMEs As issuer of the currency the Federal Government can fund the states appropriately and directly without a GST

youtu.be/WoUBiZt8mH4 I was invited to appear before the AUKUS inquiry and took the opportunity to raise an issue that is almost completely absent from the public debate: currency issuance and what actually constrains Commonwealth spending. Given the time available, how did I do?

The Brand new Kurri Kurri fossil fuel power station can export up to 660 MW. The proposed neighbouring AI data centre could consume 520 MW. That's nearly 80% of the station's export capacity. When renewables fail who will get priority?

A national plebiscite would be a collective response to a dog whistle The correct choice made on flawed information is by default the wrong choice. Most Australians truly believe that a federal gas tax will fund federal spending, that is categorically wrong.

The problem is not whether renewables can generate power. It is whether the world has the real resources, metals, land, water, factories, labour and storage to rebuild the whole industrial supply chain at scale while still running society. Dollars cannot print copper, steel or time.

Please stop framing this as if the Commonwealth needs tax revenue to act. It does not. A gas tax does not fund federal spending. It curbs windfall extraction and strengthens the public claim over gas. We need the gas more than the tax. Reserve 25% for domestic use.

Norway treated oil and gas as strategic national wealth. It taxed them heavily, kept public ownership in fossil fuel extraction, and saved much of the return in foreign assets. Australia should reserve more gas for domestic use, assert public control, and curb private windfalls.

That still treats the Commonwealth like it needs tax revenue before it can act. It does not. A gas tax does not fund federal spending. It curbs windfall extraction, strengthens the public claim over gas, and shifts more of the benefit to Australians.

I want to know whether grammar or spell check was used.😉 The real question is whether AI produced the piece. There is a critical difference between using a tool to polish human work and presenting AI generated work as human authorship. That is where trust is broken.

Except the tax in $AUD is not revenue to the currency issuing federal government We should be retaining at least 25% of the gas produced What we don't use we could sell & save in foreign currency like Norway

Headline Correction: Budget contains $45bn reduction in public currency over four years as Jim Chalmers promises further austerity. In order to maintain public money supply the public will have to borrow $45bn from private banks and pay interest.

States and territories collect royalties for onshore projects and for offshore projects in their coastal waters. The Commonwealth mainly taxes offshore gas through the PRRT in Commonwealth waters, though it still collects royalties in some old cases. Royalties differ from a federal gas tax.

That is lazy abuse in place of argument. If you cannot tell the difference between taxing private extraction and reclaiming public control over domestic supply, you are not exposing a stooge. You are exposing that you do not understand the issue.

Although 20% is a bit low, it makes more sense than a 25% tax. And it sell it directly to Australian users & productive industry at a sub market price, not via rent-seeking retailers. With that done why not lift the ban on nuclear so we can replace fossil fuels altogether.

The poorest will be disproportionally poorer The disproportionally wealthy will be wealthier And the banks will make even greater super profits as the beneficiaries of interest driven austerity The cause is not the war, it is a political choice
