Wow you can really see the plume in that map right now.
Map of the eastern part of North America showing air quality with a large plume of bad air quality from fires in Canada that stretches the whole width of the map.

You can find the flat10MIP version of the same figures in the Sanderson et al. 2025 flat10MIP paper. gmd.copernicus.org/articles/18/... Or here:

The California heat wave says summer, the trees say spring, and the snow storm in Seattle says winter. #confusedseasons

Temperature keeps going up very linearly in CMIP6 ESMs with emissions through to very high cumulative emissions. This is Fig 4a from the Sanderson et al. 2025 flat10MIP paper. X-axis is years and emissions are 10PgC/yr, so the slope is the temperature response to cumulative emissions (TCRE).
Figure of global mean surface temperature over years as CO2 is emitted at a constant rate of 10PgC/yr for 300 years. Temperature increases linearly through this range, with a different slope for each of several Earth System Models.

There is a very linear relationship between cumulative fossil fuel emissions vs. global mean surface air temperature from 1850-2024.
Figure showing cumulative fossil fuel emissions on the x-axis and global mean surface temperature on the y-axis. The data is plotted for 1850-2024 and show a very linear relationship.

Got this in the mail from a friend who couldn’t bear to throw it away. Things are a lot right now. But small things still bring a lot of light.

More AI fun: Exa.ai thinks that my spouse’s LinkedIn profile is not a real person. “The content provided gives details about his background, education, and a recommendation, but it's clear this is not a real person.” It’s so *confident* about it, too!

I always think of this map as the correct comparison - it shows if temperature, water, or solar radiation are the most limiting factor for photosynthesis (from Nemani et al 2003). I guess what I'm saying is I'm basically a plant.

Seattle closes lake Washington blvd to cars during some summer weekends. Kiddo pedaled for the first time, and then proceeded to bike the whole closure both ways! There are so few safe places for kids to bike, how can we make this every weekend?

Summary figure of strategies for high performing maize in the present day and under future climate.
Diagram describing strategies that we identified that confer high performance for maize: Early starting, Slow Aging, Stress Averting, High Yielding, Compensating, Middle Ground, Large Canopy. They are roughly ordered by the time in the season when this strategy transitions from vegetative growth to reproductive growth.
