what makes people talk like this? is it 5g? is 5g real?
no one is asking 'for a pass' or to sweep anything under the rug. everyone acknowledges that parker did harm. but there is no good--and i mean NO GOOD--served by refusing to care if another trans woman dies. you have got to love life more than you hate evil. 3/3

Sometimes I'll go looking for pockets of time when being a writer or a musician was much worse, some decade where it was literally impossible for people to make a living due to external forces or the volatility of the world.

Curious, I asked Google, "What have been the worst periods of time to be a musician?" Alongside the atrocities of Nazi Germany, where compositions by Jewish musicians were outlawed, and Afghanistan under Taliban rule, where playing and listening to music was effectively banned, sat our current time period. The Al dubbed it "The Post-Streaming & Layoff Era (2020s-Present)"

Short-Circuited Trans Care, t4t, and Trans Scenes
Amy Marvin
Transgender Studies Quarterly 9 (1):9-27 (2022)

Abstract
This essay discusses short-circuited trans care by focusing on failures of t4t as an ethos both interpersonally and within particular trans scenes. The author begins by recounting an experience working at a bar/restaurant that appealed to its identity as a caring trans community space as part of its exploitation of trans workers. This dynamic inspires the main argument, that t4t can become an ethos of scenes and institutions beyond the interpersonal while short-circuiting practices of trans care. Short-circuited trans care is then traced to t4t by drawing from Hil Malatino's work on trans care and t4t, Kai Cheng Thom's work on community dynamics, and trans literature to argue that practices of t4t often include abuse, expulsion, and assumptive care. This short-circuited trans care is linked to trans scenes by discussing the ethos of t4t in the history of Topside Press and trans cultural production. The author does not condemn t4t and to this effect offers a critique of tethering trans cultural production to prestige instead of care. Rather, the goal of this essay is to openly discuss aspects of t4t and trans care that are often obscured through the projection of a highly questionable “we” or universalized “trans community.”

the weird orange light that makes my lungs hurt is back. here's an old poem I wrote about the Oregon wildfires of 2018, published in Prolit Magazine a couple years later. www.prolitmag.com/issue-three/...
Elegy for my Master’s Thesis

When the anesthesia takes
hold my spirit / leaves my body

and gets lost somewhere—I’m always
getting lost—and some other spirit

comes inside me
when I’m waking up, some other

spirit who got lost and has been
looking for a home

for a long time, and I take
my place in a world of spirits who pass

but never touch, like some
shy canopy / reaching out forever.

There is blood there
and maygrass growing against

whispers—there are so many
reasons to burn your masters thesis. The truest erasure
is total, but there are

still fragments floating/making
the air dim/hard to breathe

palimpsest. I’ve been wearing
a mask most days. Everyone says

the fires are getting worse and I
don’t have any reason not to

believe them so I wear a mask.
I would like to not think

about it so often. I would like
to not taste charcoal

on the back of my teeth. There are
different levels of being

burned and carbonization is
just the preservation of form.

If you understand that the trans subject is unimaginable from within a cis-hegemonic social order, that transition represents an unthinkable transgression parallel to – e.g., death, sickness, madness – and that such an order is maintained only by hiding these unthinkable transgressions behind the walls of a certain type of institution – what Foucault calls heterotopias of deviation, e.g., the hospital, the prison, the concentration camp – then you understand that all anti-trans (that is, cis-hegemonic) political projects converge on the goal of institutionalization and eradication of the trans subject from the cis-hegemonic social order.

here's a poem I wrote when I had food poisoning, I think it was the summer of 2018? I don't think I ever published it or shared it anywhere.
food poisoning idk

I got food poisoning from the world’s worst KFC/Taco Bell again. At some point: cut your losses. Instructions for a bomb. Click here. Uhaul reservation. Chicken factory. Tiamat gave birth to monsters this way, but it’s never enough man I tell you what. It’s hot out, getting hotter, getting hotter. Getting hotter. It’s hot out. They open their mouth and it’s just radio static, all detuned. The sound sticks.

I wrote this poem about Jean Rollin's film The Iron Rose (1973). It won a big prize ($500) in 2019, which is still the most I've ever been paid for a single poem. Dorothea Lasky liked it even though we were on opposite sides of a poetry conflict that nobody remembers or cares about.
Elegy for L’homme
	After Jean Rollin

Se mourant en someil, il se vivait en rêve.

Somewhere in the middle a clown
wanders through the frame, no real

motivation. At the end of the night,
do you really need a reason to

bury some cute boy in a turtleneck
in a moldering sepulchre? Corbière

died of tuberculosis at the age
of twenty-nine, having only

published a single poem. We all have
our cemeteries. We all wear

the red nose from time to time,
by which I mean a plaid skirt

can hide grave dirt pretty well,
by which I mean sometimes

it’s better not to speak at all, feign
the inability or just smile

for the crowd, There are
different kinds of clowns

but only one kind of cute boy
in a turtleneck: they all read the same

poem at different parties
and they all want the same thing,

which is to be buried
alive by a beautiful woman."This poem was such a standout from the bunch. I thought to myself while reading it: wow, this poet is an expert! This poem is the winner! There is such elegance here and expertise in terms of pacing, form, imagery, and feeling—all the things you need in a great poem. I loved how the poem started with the clown, coming out of the frame, or more so 'wandering' out of it (the careless way it wanders is terrifying) and then by the middle we are all wearing the 'red nose from time to time,' i.e,. can’t we all be the clown sometimes? Oh yes, I certainly do agree, but to what end? Also, who is this cute boy in the poem? I didn’t really want him to die but I was glad the poem did as it made me feel like I was in the presence of something infinitely strong. Also, poor Corbière publishing only one poem, only a 'single' poem (that 'single' is so fancy), before he died so young was so sad. This poem made me think of so many things and it did so so utterly gracefully. I love it!"

Everybody I used to play
music with died or moved

their sex or got a job

interest is class interest
and the abattoir is an invitation,

right? Somebody has to drink all this

Nobody left around here
is gonna 360 big spin a revolution

my own personal opioid crisis

going on and besides that
it’s cold. I hear it never gets cold

in LA. The old guys downstairs
keep inviting me to their

AA meetings but I say look guys
I’m just here to practice

with my noise band okay? And
one of them says you don’t have to

drink to have a drinking problem
and I say you don’t have to drink

to have a noise band either.
We nod to each other

practice but nobody says anything.

I'm writing poems again.
Nobody ever really dies in New York City.

The same day two helicopters slam into each other 1,000 feet over the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, an airplane carrying 11 prospective skydivers crashes into the sandy clay loam of Butler, Missouri. Among the many dead are a white rapper named Oliver Tree and the President of the United States

Parachute Association. If you hang around Bushwick long enough you’ll start to visualize the loot people might drop when killed or otherwise incapacitated. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy my $16 breakfast sandwich, my $5 mochi donut, my $5 cup of house blend drip coffee, the pain in my right hip every time I take another step reminding me that I’m alive, always have been and always will be.

Nobody ever really dies in New York City.
