Probably a hot take but I think Tim Robinson hot dog man is a bad meme because it relies entirely on context from the source that the meme version never provides. You have to already know that in the original context he's talking about a hot dog car crashing through a window or else it's nonsense

Whedonesque dialogue is a style choice, and like all style choices it has specific effects and can be done well or poorly. It's been popular for a while so general preferences turning against it is inevitable, but it's not some inherently bad choice. Nor is it inherently incapable of sincerity

If "millennial writing" is use of blabbering, non-elegant dialogue emulating an idea of the messy way people really talk, I feel the reactionary strain of the backlash to it is part of the same intolerance for aesthetic "imperfection" that only values a middle schooler's conception of classical art

Just discovered Agefield High exists and having played neither this nor Mixtape, my uninformed instinct is it's like an evil-universe Mixtape. Both nostalgic throwbacks to bygone eras about a trio of high schoolers wanting one big last hurrah. But... extremely different vibes.

This is dreadful, I know a lot of people weren't gonna touch it because of management booting so much of the original Disco Elysium team, but once again it's workers facing the consequence from disastrous management decisions. It's a sickening state of affairs no matter how you look at it.

No matter my feelings about the studio's upper management, this is still a tragedy. The amount of talent bleeding out across the industry is catastrophic. Many of them will find footing at other studios, or start fresh as independent outfits. Many more will struggle to find work and feed families.

Fool that I am, I'd assumed that The Asylum had eased off on doing their Mockbuster "trick people into watching" movies after Sharknado took off, but they've still been going strong, even more shameless than I remember. "Pandora: Fire and Ice" and "Road Wars: Max Fury" are especially funny to me

anyway I agree with @echobizarre.bsky.social’s take on Veilguard: it’s another Dragon Age game. It’s the worst Dragon Age game. It’s a miracle it’s so good. It’s deeper than it’s said to be, but shallower than it should have been. It’s okay.

Also I hate how ephemeral it makes such playthroughs. From like a video preservation perspective, a Let's Play is, however its content ages, as complete an experience ten years later as it is the day of. Streams with heavy chat engagement often feel worthless as VODs (with some exceptions)

My contribution to Odyssey discourse is that when I read it in 9th grade I wrote an essay saying Odysseus slaughtering the suitors showed he was trapped in a warrior's mentality and my teacher said she never thought of that before and now I make YouTube video game analysis to try to relive that rush

What gets me is how utterly boring the sorts of people I've seen rage at Mixtape (not dislike, not be apathetic about, *rage*) are and want all games to be. Maybe it's bad, I don't have interest in playing it myself but it has an identity and a vision and it's good that games like it can be made

There's a bit in Perfect Tides: Station to Station where the game basically breaks the fourth wall to be like "hey I wanted to set a scene to Bohemian Rhapsody but music licensing is expensive so you just pull it up on YouTube and let's jam" and I respect that immensely
